Mornin' All!
Bed at a reasonable time last night (22:30) ... but woke up at 01:14 bright-eyed and ready to go .. why oh why!?! No caffeine after 15:00 / No alcohol / No cold-relief with stimulants! I give up! DD up at 06:00, I'm afraid to say I ran away and slept in her room for 2hrs leaving DH to "look" after her (she fidgets in bed, especially if I'm there!) ... we all got up at 08:00 and did brekkie etc!
The sun is shining .. so I'm hoping I will be able to hang the washing out in a while .... however, there's little breeze, so I suspect that all they will get is a bit of fresh air!
Yesterday, I went to the market whilst DD was doing "Rhythm Time" on her own for the 1st time w/o me (sob!) ... it was bliss to be able to wander through the market for 30misn w/o a bored toddler and avoiding hacking people's ankles with the pushchair!
The upshot is I bought £8 worth of vegetables: Carrots / Parsnips / Purple Sprouting Broccoli / Savoy Cabbage / Celeriac.
Parsnips will be made into curried parsnip soup (yum!)
Celeriac ?? Hmmm, any ideas folks!?! I bought it as my "mystery veg" of the week!
Someone (sorry, memory like a sieve this morning!) asked about a BM and whether they were worth it etc. We have a BM and I love bread, but, I did notice that once we'd bought the BM our bread consumption went up at a rate of knots .. and so did our waistlines!!
So beware!!
((Johanne)) - sorry to hear the bad news about the house, it did sound good. However, something better will definitely come along.
Well, as I'm working today, I'd best get on with it!
Tonight, I'm out for a few drinks with the girls, so that should be fun. Just don't forget to whisper in the morning!
B - Weetabix
L - bread & cheese
D - steak & mushroom pudding with purple sprouting broccoli, which I need to make at lunchtime, never made it before, I note that the recipe I have says to simmer in water for 4hrs, guessing I can do that in my SC AOK?
Ciao folks!!GC - March 2024 -0 -
Morning all :hello:
:grouphug: Johanne for your housing situation in general, but especially for getting your dream home whipped away from right under your nose. That's happened to me in the past.
Can't think of much to say this morning cos my life's not that interesting
Went to pub with boyfriend last night. He's being a bit distant at the moment, but I hope it's just cos he's tired and having trouble with his house move. Makes me feel insecure though
Did find a pack of 8 low-fat sausages reduced to 10p in Sainsburys on the way home though, which cheered me up
I've also got a stewpack (swede, onion, carrot, parsnip) which I picked up reduced to 59p at the Co-op on Monday, plus lots of spuds to use up. I'm off to my favourite cheapie standing room spot at the Royal Opera House for a matinee on Saturday afternoon (can't remember ticket price - about £8) so I will bung a lovely stodgy sausage & spud casserole in the SC before I go out. I'll have to put it on low because I'm sure a couple of my friends are also going to the matinee, so there may be a beer afterwards
Got colleague's leaving do tonight - the one I had to dump my friend for because I got the date wrong- but it's quite important to go to the work do because colleague is moving back to Australia so I'll probably never see him again! Luckily we managed to get our dinner booking rescheduled to tomorrow, and my friend is still speaking to me

Johanne hugs from me. If I were your landlord I would keep you on.
Yesterday was one of those horrible energyless days. I think I am still getting over the christmas/new year sluggishness. Got my bike out yesterday and went to post some letters. I have to go up hills wherever I go from here but I do get lots of benign looks particularly from older people. I hope they are thinking that if I can do it then they can do it. I would love to see more people cycling to the shops
A better nights sleep for me and I do think it is linked to me going on my bike. DH snores loud lately so have got ear plugs ready on my bedside table.
I had a quick look at flylady site the other day and won`t be following all she says but have started to do a shiny sink at night and dressing to my shoes. It does make a difference because I can easily slop around in my dressing gown for hours, doing jobs etc
I have just started another lot of alfalfa seeds and refilled the rinsing bowl on my sprouter. The beansprouts will be ready in two days. The tray over the beansprouts is weighted with 4 pebbles so that the beansprouts grow more chunky. The alfalfa is in a tray over the beansprouts so the rinsing water goes over the 2 layers. I only restarted the sprouting seeds a few days ago and ate some yesterday. I feel much more energetic this morning. I will carry on the good work in an hour by juicing some apples with the rest of the alfalfa and a little ginger
I am not as organised as many on here re meals but I don`t work now and have no kiddies to feed so I can be more relaxed
breakfast: muesli
lunch: HM lentil soup (blended with a little gammon )and HM bread. Bread made yesterday but keeps well as I add some butter to the flour.
evening meal: ooh errr maybe a SC venison casserole as I am trying to eat from the store cupboard. Not buying any more venison as was too expensive. Will make with cranberry sauce and some wine
Back to flylady. Another good tip was to give bathroom a flick straight after using. Done that and its much better than going back to it later0 -
Morning All
First time I've managed to post this week. Got a very busy day today, nappies about to finish in WM and can go out on washing line for a blow and hopefully abit of a sun bleach. Got another load of whites to do as well. Off to aldi in abit to get my weekly shop. Got my list and roughly worked out how much it will cost.
This afternoon its baking afternoon, need to do pizza base as DH has a old friend coming over for tea and afew drinks tomorrow, also need to do some fairy cake or biscuits for treats havent decided which yet. Then its the excitment of ironing. Hope DD sleeps for afew hours this afternoon or I wont get it done.
Breakfast: Tea and toast
Lunch: Leftover Cornbeef Hash
Tea: Chicken thighs and Veg
Have a good daySorting my life out one day at a time0 -
Johanne - sorry to hear about the house. OH told me last night. Don't worry, something will come up. :grouphug:
Having one of those days todayLast night I went to bed at 9.30 as I was so tired. As soon as my head touched the pillow I woke up and after tossing and turning I gave up and put Lost on (I've been half watching it over the series but now I can't wait until series 2 starts!). Midnight I was still awake so I ended up coming downstairs to take 2 sleep aids (HRI's Night tablets which are supposed to "premote refreshing natural sleep") but I was still awake at 1.30! When I did finally get to sleep I had a really restless nights sleep. I must have woke up about 4 times then OH's alarm went off at 6.15am :wall: Surfice to say I am shattered this morning. THEN to top it all off I've done something to my right hand, not good considering I'm right handed. I don't know what it is, I think I've pulled a muscle or something as I can't put any pressure on it (as in I can't use it to shut doors or open jars, even trying to spread marg this morning hurt), I can't lift anything and trying to dress DD this morning was a nightmare as was doing her hair! To make matters worse I briefly forgot it was sore when I came back from the school run after having to kick the bottom of the frontdoor to get it to open and hurting my toe so I used my right hand to shut our sticking frontdoor  I'm just glad DD was already at school as the language would make a sailor (or is it a soldier?) blush! Guess who is taking it easy today?
Originally I was going to do the washing up, clean the house excluding bathroom and kitchen (they were done yesterday) and even wash the floors downstairs! Then make something egg based for tea (we've had stew 3 nights on the run noweach time it was slightly different). Now it seems it will be a day of computering (read: MSE, OH, Neopets & UKcompetitons
) as I can just about manage to use the mouse and I can actually type quite fast one handed. Pasta with Aromat for tea, OH can always drain the pasta if needs be.
Anyway I just had to share this old feeling/shock/proudness OH and I had last night. DD came running out of school last night all excited, even more so that usual. It turns out that her teacher has decided to send 2 reading books home at a time due to DD's "Love of reading". Mind you I think I would as well since DD can read the reading books that she's had in about 10 minutes and she's been finding them REALLY easy. So last night I got her stuff out of her bag to find that they've upped the reading stage she's on to Stage 9 (she was on stage 8) which according to the website for the reading scheme she's on (Oxford Reading tree) is supposed to be for Year 2 children with a reading age of 7 years to 8 years! She's 4 years old and not 5 until April  On top of that, her teacher has also sent a workbook home so that DD can start doing comprehension work _pale_ All this was a surprise to me as it is was but then DD sat down, read the book which she had comprehension work for in 15 minutes even though there was more pages and more text per page () THEN she did all the comprehension work on her own without any help from me at all  She needs to work on her writing bit other than that she actually found the work easy! I think I need to go in and see her teacher tonight after school to get some help with what to do - I knew she enjoyed reading and she was advanced but this is ridiculous!
Oh well, off to have a look around the web and here. I wonder what comps I'll enter today ?Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Morning all you good folk,
Johanne: I am so sorry pet,I hope things turn around for you .It's got to be your turn for some good luck.
Queenie ,Stop and smell the coffee (sorry Kiwi) I'm worn out just reading your email.
Not a lot to do today. Library books due back, and a quick stop off at the post office to post the little brownie's dolls outfit that I finished last night to a little girl who has just joined the Brownies.
My daughter asked me to have a look in the hair suppliers shop near to me for some 'Black and White Putty' I'm not sure if she is winding me up,but apparently my grandson wants some for his hair. She assures me that they will know what it is .
I always thought putty was what you put around windows, but it seems it's some sort of gel for young blokes hair.
When I get home I shall try some of the veggie recipes that were posted for me yesterday. I have a glut of veggies owing to Tesco's over ordering them . I got a huge bagful yesterday for about a quid. Their loss is my veggies.
Hope everyone has a good day.0 -

Sounds exactly how my mum felt when I was young, my mum ended up telling the library to give me permission to borrow adult books when I was 7 because the kids stuff just simply wasnt cutting it! I ended up reading flowers in the attic by virginia andrews at 8yrs old, of course I didnt understand the subtext till I watched the movie at 14yrs old! I was also so bored with kids books I even read my mums applied biology university texts at 9yrs old, and understood the lot.
One word of warning though, I was an absolute PAIN in high school because I was completely bored by all the classes, I used to read A level psychology texts during yr 9 physics classes and still aced the tests with 97%. Definately speak to the teachers and get them to help feed her mind - boredom and kids is an explosive mix! My english teacher was really good though, whilst reading shakespeare, the class would get regular work, and me and one other guy used to get the teachers university essay questions on the same text to challenge us.
