Update:
They phoned me and left a voicemail to say they were going to arrange a collection for the item and chose a date whilst I was in work.
I arrived back to the house with a slip on the doormat saying they tried to collect the item but i wasn't in.
That was more than a week ago and I still haven't heard anything more. Should I presume this is now mine?Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000
Mortgage free: When i'm 39 / Sept 2023
Mortgage repayment = £588

No, quite the contrary. They've told you quite clearly they want it back and have attempted to collect it. It's just a question of arranging a mutually convenient time now. When they left the original voicemail did they give you the option of phoning and arranging a different time?Val.0 -

what is it with people that they ask these questions on here, commonly I ordered one of item x two of them were delivered can I keep it etc
the only reason you ask the question is to appease your conscience. You know it is wrong to keep it but if enough people say nudge nudge wink wink keep it then you will say it is ok
Putting yourself in the other person's shoes is usually a good test - if you had sent out the item plus free gift and the customer returned it and kept the free gift what would you expect to happen. Please don't give the old argument well it is a big company they can afford it, they have insurance etc0 -

They ARE a big company
They CAN afford to take a hit.
They HAVE NOT come back to me since the note through the door two weeks ago.
All I asked was if there was a law stating if a certain period of time lapses, is the item classed as mine?Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000

Quite agree. They clearly said they wanted it back. Just because you werent in and they havent been in touch doesnt make it right. Its been a busy trading period, i am sure getting customer orders out has been more pressing than chasing you up, but dont be surprised when they do.0 -

If they have made it clear that they want it back, and you refuse to return it, then you have stolen the item and can expect a letter from a debt collector demanding the value of the item in cash. One way or the other you will either have to return the Blu-Ray player, or pay for it, but you certainly ain't getting it for free.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Having originally not been asked to send it back i would have said "keep it if they don't ask within a few weeks", but now they have actually phoned, come to collect and left a note through the letter box i would say this is clearly not your item to keep, they want it back.0
