Well I would wait for them to contact you. Firstly if they want it back- its their job to arrange pick up or return postage.
I would give it 28 days or something, if they don't do anything before then, keep it, its unlikely they will and it would be easy to fight back at them and say "you left it too long, I assumed it was mine/threw it away..etc"
Just being nosy- what did you get?!!
Don't think I can get away with saying that I threw this away....Mortgage as Sept 2012: £96,000

LOL! ok, so they may not believe you!- though you could try saying you didn't know what it did....confused by all the instructions, thought it was broken...threw it away- its what I would do if they came knocking tbh-
Think your pretty safe if after a month they don't ask for it back- having seen/heard it happen before, you are not the only one. Merry Christmas! LOL!0 -
who was it from? sony or the retailer?
was the player delivered from sony direct or from the retailer? sometimes if its a sony promotion giving the blueray for free, its supplied by sony rather than the retailer, in which case i doubt you'll ever get chased for it.
Keep it sealed and boxed for 30 days, then start using it.
I had a similar thing a few years back, not a free gift, but a mistake i guess. Ordered a £350 Technics 1210 Turntable and they delivered 1x pack of 2, instead of 1. I kept the other one sealed up and waited for them to collect it, they never did. Funny thing was, i got a call for the 3 days later, i felt a little disapointed when they said who it was, but then they said they were only tryin to sell me an extended warranty on it! haha. I've still got them both now

Often the actual promotion part is done by another company, so the likelyhood of it being chased up is probably minimal... the PR company will just be instructed to give away X number of players to people who are notified to them by the retailers as having bought a TV or whatever.
I think the advice to keep it boxed for a month is very fair and sensible - after that I think it is fair to assume they don't want it.In the probably unlikely event that I actually post something of use to someone, an ickle vote of thanks would be much appreciated, in fact I might frame it and put it up on the wall next to my cycling proficiency certificate

i dont know any legal rules but im pretty sure if they wanted it back they would have asked for it, or stated on the returns form that you must return it with the goods?
I wouldnt worry about it. Although i guess you could phone up and say you bought an item and want to return it do you have to give the free gift back, but dont give them any details like your name- your just asking for trouble if you do

I could be wrong but if they asked for the goods back and you used them they may be able to charge you for it.
It might be best to cover yourself and ask them, then if they said keep it, you have at least made an attempt to cover yourself, best do this via email and you have it in writing.
Otherwise you could run the risk of one day they come asking for it back0 -
Yeah, legally they could do that, but in reality, its unlikely they will if they leave it so long.
Firstly because I am sure they have better things to do then look through all the old orders they have, and secondly, it would make them appear very unpopular if they billed for an item that they forgot to ask back.0 -

I got a letter today from the big electrical retailer i ordered off appolgising for the delay in my refund and attached the reciept refunding both items.
Nothing else has been said.
I'm wrapping it up to put under the Xmas tree and if by Xmas they haven't said anything - i'm opening it!
