Compensation for Power Cuts

Hope you didn't waste too much money throwing away good food and buying it again!
Any chance you could claim for that fall because of the paving slab you tripped over on the way to the supermarket when you bought that new food?
Btw, 1am - 9pm is more than 15 hours. If the power was restored temporally in the meantime, the fridge/freezer would have cut back in if the temperature inside had risen.
Do you have a refrigerated vehicle to transport the goods from the supermarket to your house?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
It's about time that producing sprogs wasn't an easy route to more free money. There are already enough people in this country, so it is time child benefit was scrapped so as to ensure only those who can afford to bring up a child choose to do so.
China had the right idea with their one-child policy when they needed to put a stop to population growth. If we don't interfere, nature will do the same in countries that have had unsustainable population increases in the past few decades such that they can no longer feed themselves without outside aid. In fact it would be better if we did that as the currently small proportion of the population who are naturally HIV resistant would within two or three generations become the majority, which is how we have always adapted in the past to new threats. Yes, it wipes out the majority of the population for a generation or two, but the end result is an immune population afterwards.
I also believe infertility treatment to allow them to have babies is wrong, as that is going completely against evolution. Allowing people naturally infertile to have children, will only increase the chance in future generations of ever more infertile people. Infertile couples should be given priority to adopt children, not have medical intervention which allows them to have a child from their own eggs or sperm, which is likely to pass on infertility to future generations.0 -
Talking of whichBecause up here in Manchestoh,we have a syndrome called six mumf old babeh syndrome whereby you claim to have a six mumf old babeh or a new born babeh becuase you assume that this is the passport to instant attnetion and possible riches. To quote a possible scenario...a young mothers heating breaks down. She rings council says.."I need me eatin fixed. I've got a six mumf old babeh."
Of course you;d need to be familar with Manc inner city accents and sub-culture to appreciate my point.

I did that, actually. I had a young infant when something in our heating stopped working. It was a weekend and we were in a remote area, so I totally used "I have a newborn baby" to get them to step it up.
We weren't living in a council house, though. It was privately rented.:beer:0 -
And did you actually have a new bawn babeh or was it just a cunning ruse? I guess you were lucky as i've met some landlords who would make Rachmann look like the archbishop of Canterbury. Still i guess it doesnt much matter with a private landlord as he is just paying to hire someone in. Its a slightly different matter if people are pulling on a pool of limited public resources and use the excuse to somehow establish some kind of priority.0

Have you experienced it too Premier or do you have any local variations?0 -

We had a power cut from 1am 19th November through to 9pm 19th November (a total of 15 hours).
I know we can claim through our house insurance for fridge/freezer food but what about the costs of us having to eat out as we had no power to cook anything? Well ok, although we are gas cooker, we couldn't have eaten anything in the fridge or freezer and would have had to have cooked and eaten in the dark! Also tonight, although we have power, we can't use any of the food in the fridge or freezer so are going to have to buy extra food to eat.
Anyone got any advice?
I wonder what the nature of the powercut was? was it just you or several neighbours? We get so used to our home comforts that we really feel lost without them dont we?
Perhaps there was some poor soul out on the road digging a hole in the wee small hours in the freezing cold and wet trying to locate a broken cable? Did you spot him? If so,perhaps you could have made him a nice warm cup of tea and be thankfull that it isnt you.0 -

Surely your landlord would know if you had a young 'baby' or infact it was an older child? Therefore he would know you were lying? What did people do in the old days before we had central heating? I hate the way people try and use kids, disabilites and any other kind of excuse just to get something they want.0 -

Why do you assume that I was lying?

Surely there is a difference between you having a young infant, but saying that he/she is a young baby, just to get the job done quicker/get someone out quicker?0
