Thanks F1Charlie, but it was the laptop I was after , however that link did send me to some nice pics of the Vostro laptop here

Apologies :o . Must not make (incorrect) assumptions!

Conor is right, if you you buy a standard Dell (not a business one with just OS and drivers) it's usually loaded with garbage

So check you have all the driver discs, then just format and reinstall from scratch, without putting all the trials on, it makes for a much cleaner running and faster machine. And easy to do when it's new before you load all your apps and files.

I quite like the Vostros, but the cases are really deep, pity...

I used the small business site to buy a Dell XPS M1350 a few months back when there was a 15% coupon available and I also got the added Quidco cashback that tracked no problem. No experience of the Vostro but I'm happy with this laptop but certainly try to wait for discount codes/offers if you can as it can save a considerable amount. I found the 15% coupon in the forums at dmxdimension and they also get listed at hotukdeals from time to time I think.
After posting about receiving an email to my MSE username/email from 'Money Expert' (note the use of ' '), I am now unable to post on MSE. Such is life.

(PS I was referring to the desktop cases, not laptops!)
  • I thought I'd add to the mix here, I'm a bit of a lurker.

I've got the vostro 1310 and have had vostro 1400. The build qualty of the older vostros was much better, saying that for the price that you pay for the machine it's a good spec. Just with both machines watch out for the graphics card. Nvidia 8400 is known to have issues on laptops, just google it- it causes motherboards to fry.

But seriously vostro isn't bad at all seems to run well and has everything you need, unless you're into sound the speakers are seriously lacking.
