Nothing for A1 game at companies house. Only A1 Games distribution, dissolved 12 december 06.(!)
Police wouldn't log it as a crime without some evidence it was a bogus firm.
Trading standards said best bet is to hound our credit card companies as we don't have the same consumer protection with PP. Won't be using them again in a hurry.
Maybe we should all write a letter to the editor at the Sun.0 -
See HotUKDeals.com for another forum on this - lots of posts on there - all exactly the same story. Dazmum - paypal only guarantee on ebay, not other online stores - which I did not realise until this incident. I have received the reply saying they have found in my favour, but no money left in his account. It will have been cleared while we were confirming our addresses in good faith. I think its appalling of paypal not to offer refunds in situations such as this and extremely misleading of them. If anyone has any luck getting their money back, please let me know.
Good luck!0 -
PP respose as follows:
"We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
favour.
We were able to recover 177.52 GBP, and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow five working days for this adjustment to be posted.
If you are due any additional funds, we will make our best effort to
recover the balance from the seller.
If the seller's account has insufficient funds to complete the refund owed
to you, please be assured that we will take appropriate action against the
seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account
privileges."
Thats a bit contradictory.

Yes exactly the same too, except I didnt pay by Paypal, as I have recently had issues with my bank accounts being hacked through Paypal, so I paid for my Wii fit game with credit card. So it seems I now have to go through the hassle of trying to claim it back. Ill let you know if this works. How do people get away with this. I even did a company check first on this company to see if it was genuine. Obviously didnt get that correct.0

PP have refunded me, albeit £6.46 short, dunno why.
Very relieved, best of luck and Merry Christmas to the rest of you.0 -
PayPal have sent me a similar message to Piglet:
We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
favour.
We were able to recover 19.11 GBP, and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow five working days for this adjustment to be posted.
I know it's only a small amount compared to what others have lost, but I am counting the pennies and it really annoyed me to be cheated out of my money. Hope everyone else will get their money back in time to buy from someone honest. Will make me more cautious about buying online.0 -
I know it's no help now, but I always check out these 'cheap' websites before buying.
for .com addresses use www.whois.net

A .uk address setup at the end of Oct registered in the US would set the alarm bells ringing.I hope Paypal do the right thing and give full refunds - I know from the Farepak fiasco how a company can ruin Christmas for people.
