Putting Orange Contract SIM in an Orange PAYG phone: will it work?
Comments
-
I think I'm very close to ordering the SPV 550 PAYG and just hoping it will work with the contract SIm.
Can anyone vouch for me that even if the contract SIM doesn't work in the PAYG phone, Orange will deffinitely be able to unlock it for me so it does work?
Thanks y'all

Nothing is certain and unfortunately you won't actually know if it will work with your contract SIM, until you get it and try it.
I do however know of an Orange Motorola V220 bought this month from Orange, that would NOT work when a contract SIM was inserted until unlocked.
You may therefore have to pay up to £20 to get it unlocked.

Thanks again. Does this mean that orange will be able to unlock it then. I don't mind paying £20 so long as it works!

Yes, Orange will be happy to unlock it for a fee, but do contact Browntoa and/or Drachir for advice.0

Browntoa seems to think it will work just fine by swapping the sims! Anyone else able to advise before I take the plunge?

Well, I just managed to get through to someone at Orange (using a 0800 number off the saynotoo870.com website of course!) and they said that an orange contract SIM will work just fine in an Orange PAYG phone.
I'm going to use the contract SIM for a 12month free Nokia 3120 and put it in a SVP C550 PAYG phone. Only question I have now is will there be any restriction on the things I'll be able to do on the SVP smartphone with the 3120 contract SIM? Guess I'm not too bothered about things apart from texts and calls, but it would be good if it all worked ok, like picture messaging and stuff like that. Anyone know what stuff might not work?0 -
I was going to post a yes last night, when I was beaten to it.
I was surprised to still see this thread still going this afternoon.
I have been with Orange for about 8 years and have never heard of what Espresso is going on about.
Stop worrying, I swop contract and payg sims regularly, depending what freebies are on offer. I recently got an SPV 550 for £49 on a Orange/Virgin ovp. ( thread on here somewhere) and it if fully functional with payg and contract sims, though that does not disprove espressos assertion. However in my experience contract upgrades are cheaper than payg upgrades so there is no point in preventing swops. If I were on any other orange tariff then the SPV would have been free.
If you need to unlock phones other than Nokkia, then your local market will have someone who will do it for a fiver upwards.

Thanks so much everyone, I think I'll go for it! I'll have a play around and I might need to come back and ask for some of your kind help again!

Can't believe it: I've spent so long trying to find out whether it will work that the 12month free OVP 200 contract has gone from the coolnewmobile website! How frustrating! :mad:0

The Orange C550 can be unlocked for free.
I've ordered the C550 and when it arrives I'll post the instructions I used to unlock it. If you can't wait: they can be found somewhere on howardforums.com or modaco.com, I can't remember where I saw it (I'll find the link again when I need it in a couple of days)0
