Help me to Lose weight

On the subject of losing weight (I need to!) Does anyone have any inspiration for someone who cannot do weight-bearing exercise of any sort, and cannot attend groups like SW or WW...
I also drink copious amounts of water throughout the day.
Ideas,inspiration and encouragement welcome!
Do you have problems with your thyroid? Are you on steriods?
To be honest, I think this is a problem that needs professional intervention.
The only other thing I can think of, is that a lot of the 'surplus' weight could be retained fluid. My father could lose 10 lb virtually overnight when his diurectics were increased.s/e0 -

I've spoken to the docs, and they don't seem the least bit interested, just get told to take my meds as directed and they'll see me next review.
I know I don't really eat enough; but I don't really enjoy eating, as it tires me out. (Daft as that sounds, its true).
Hmmm... maybe I need to totally rethink how I cope with food.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
the trouble with eating so little is that your body goes into starvation mode and keeps every morsel of food it does get as stores which then makes weight pile on when you do eat a bit more.
id still recommend the loose weight thread i linked above, its fairly quiet just now, but the people on there, are at all stages of weight loss and all utilizing different plans to loose or maintain. and someone always has a suggestion or two.0 -
I'm wanting to lose weight as well. I've done SW and did lose some (years ago) but can't afford to go back - any other suggestions would be appreciated.
I've got an under-active thyroid and PCOS so they are not helping me. Also needing to have a major operation at some point and at present they won't do it because of my weight.... if you join weight watchers online and then cancel the subscription, your username and password still work....

For those that cannot do weight-bearing exercise, have you thought about going swimming? That might help.
I know what its like to not eat - I do it all the time:rolleyes: which I guess is why I am developing a real podge:rolleyes: Methinks that I will have to go back to eating more by having 5 small meals a day.
The reason I don't eat is because I either forget, go past the feeling hungry stage or just plain old can't be bothered:rolleyes: I am trying to get better - today was a bad day because I skipped breakfast, had a mug of tea and a slice of apple pie when I was out (I really wanted something hot but the caff hadn't started cooking) and by the time I came home and started to catch up with work I just plain forgot about it. Tonights dinner is a jacket spud, bacon and cheese, and I may even open a tin of fruit (I have no fresh fruit in at the mo).0 -
Come and join us in the Pie Club!
We're a friendly bunch (honest!) and we're all doing our own thing - but we're all trying to lose weight. I've lost over 3 stone so far, although some people have lost more.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

On the subject of losing weight (I need to!) Does anyone have any inspiration for someone who cannot do weight-bearing exercise of any sort, and cannot attend groups like SW or WW - two reasons, 1. I have no means to get there, and 2. I have bad social phobia to the extent that I can't join a self-help group for social phobics!
Basically I have to do this at home, on my own. I am a vegetarian, and actually don't eat much, and find that I feel full after about three mouthfuls.
Typical day:
5:30am: Cup of black tea without sugar
7:15am: Quarter of a slice of toast with jam (no butter) My husband makes a slice and I have quarter of it, otherwise I'd not bother with breakfast.
Half a glass of grapefruit juice.
12:00 noon: Half a homemade roll with cheese (again, no butter) I tried having a whole one but found it too much so went back to having half.
3:00pm: Banana
7:15pm: Small helping of dinner, eg veggie shepherd spy OR pasta in cheese sauce OR other veggie meal
8:30pm Small helping of fruit pie (homemade). I have to have a break between main course and dessert, hence the dessert being eaten so much later. I don't always have dessert at all.
I also drink copious amounts of water throughout the day.
Ideas,inspiration and encouragement welcome!
I'd agree that you're probably not eating enough and that your body is in starvation mode (thqat was my problem). You can do weightwatchers completely online without needing to go to meetings which may help you and like I said I've not done any intentional exercise whilst losing my weight.
You can sign up for the messageboards on the ww website to ask questions of the people over there without having to pay a penny - the money only gives access to the weight and food tracking facilities rather than the messageboards.
Rob - you don't have to cook all meals from scratch on ww - we eat a fair amount of pre-prepared food and so long as you have the nutritional information (calories and saturated fat) you can work out the points.
must steer clear of this thread in future...I'm genuinely NOT on the ww payroll :rotfl:"According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible" Bee Movie 20070 -
lame wolf,
its tough if you cant go out as I guess swimming is out (which is probably best non weightbearing). Would you be able to do some things in a nice warm bath? (such as lifting legs and holding whilst lying down).
there are plenty of excersises which are non weight bearing, anything which gets you out of breath and your heart going is doing you good.
I've had lots of physio suggestions much of which starts with marchin on the spot, stepping up and down off a step, standing up out of a chair, lifting one leg / arm and holding it...
look up cardiovascular excersises, seated ecersises or ever pilates / yoga on t'internet and pick some moves you think you could manage, start with small cylcles of each excersise eg 1 minute of each for a total of 15 min and work your way up from there. write down what you manage so you can see your progress. I find music or a trusted friend to encorage you helps.
I guess the other problem is motivation.
I find one way to help with that is to find a hobby you like (such as gardening) and do what you can manage but at a speed which leaves your heart racing and you feeng a bit out of breath (in my case most things have this effect!)0 -
