Help me to Lose weight

I went yesterday to tesco and thought i would check the scales to see what my current weight is .
I wish i hadnt as i know feel really really bad. it came out at 18 st 9
i have always been 13st 13 and in the last year my weight has increased and its seems nothing i to do will make it decrease.
I have cut out eating things like burgers and chips and try to eat healthy balanced meals and since choosing to eat vegitarian meals have felt that im eating better.
i do occasionally eat meat and althought im allergic to seafood i eat some fish like tuna and cod.
i know that i get bored and eat between meals and also i have really bad cravings for sugared items or crisps (thought i tend not to buy these as i know they are not good) but i usually end up having a yogurt or something.
I am unable to attend the gym because of my health problems and i can only walk so far comfortably because of my back and right leg.
I would like to be able to lose 6st and im worrying that due to how depressed i feel im going to do something drastic ,
i am going to start a calorie controlled diet but what can i do to stop this craving for sweets and sugary stuff - i have spoken to the doctor and got ridiculed for asking about it.
sorry if i have not made sense- but im so upset at myself for getting this bad ,I dont think i look that overweight but i now feel disgusted and completly embarrassed at my self

I lost 4st on Slimming World without doing any proper exercising. You will find though that as you lose weight, your mobility will increase as your joints will be under less pressure.
On SW you don't need to cut out sweet things at all, you will still be able to even eat chocolate but in moderation. I can remember before I started the plan, I was having an addictive phase with Creme Eggs. The first week of the plan I saved up my 'syns' to be able to have one without compromising my diet, and I actually didn't even enjoy it lol
Once you start seeing results and start to feel lighter, all the sweet stuff you want now won't feel half as rewarding I promise.
But don't feel bad. it's the same principle as being in debt. You've recognised you have a problem and you've taken the first steps to resolve it by posting on here
Good luck0 -
If the real problem is the urge to eat sweet and sugary things between meals have you considered chewing gum and apples? An apple like Pink Lady, which is quite sweet and has a distinctive flavour might help satisfy the cravings. Or perhaps mandarines or clementines - again, both quite sweet but without the calories that you'd find in sweets and biscuits.
One thing I would say though - don't deny yourself everything that you enjoy. If you can do it, a square or two of good quality chocolate once a week or so won't do you any harm, and if you haven't cut out everything you enjoy you're more likely in the long term to stick to any diet.
Good luck.s/e0 -
thanks guys i hadnt thought about clementines , i dont like chewing gum but will try eating clementines

Hi Rob,
I'm gonna sound like an advert now which I don't mean to but seriously consider weightwatchers. I could've written your email in August of this year - I'm now 20lbs lighter! I've never tried slimming world but I find weightwatchers really straightforward - you do a quiz which tells you how many points you have to use each day and so long as you are within points, you can use them however you want, you can also carry some points over if you don't use them (for example if you know you want a takeaway tomorrow) and although the first couple of weeks were a bit tricky getting used to it, I've done it with absolutely no exercise (due to disability). Although I am female i can appreciate what you mean about slimming clubs being a bloke. I use the weightwatchers esource which is their online resource, to help track my points and they have an online forum with a board specifically for men for morale support etc...I go once a week to be weighed in but never stick around for the meeting bit - having seen the fatfighters sketch in little britain I don't think I'd be able to keep a straight face!!!:rotfl: Feel free to PM me if you want.
EDIT: Forgot to say - part of your problem may be that you're not eating enough meat! I was told at ww that some protein with each meal can actually help weightloss and it has certainly worked for me - I'm also still a self-confessed McDonalds addict, it's just that it's all 'pointed' these days (I eat healthily the rest of the time...honest!)"According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible" Bee Movie 20070 -

Eating out of boredom needs to be separated from eating out of hunger.
Don't buy things that might tempt you.
You are still allowed to eat! Eat well, but be totally honest with how much you are adding outside of meal times.
I like nuts and dried fruit as random snacks.Happy chappy0 -
Bit hard to know what to suggest as not sure what your health condition is but I guess there are two parts to loosing weight:
1. reduce the calories you eat.
I think that its probably important to try and fill yourself up by having a good breakfast (research supports this) something which is bulky like weetabix or porridge is probably a good bet. You could try a low cal soup for lunch (type weightwatchers zero calorie soup into google there are loads). If you crave sweet things, something like dried apricots may help to deal with the sugar craving but fill you up with plenty of fibre.
2. increase the calories you use.
If you cant walk far have you thought about seated excercise? my friend organised classes for people who had problems standing for long periods, here are some examples: http://exercise.about.com/cs/exerciseworkouts/l/blobeseexercise.htm
such an increase in weight could be a complication of your medical condition / medication so you should probably talk to your gp too.0 -

You weigh x and you're eating the amount of food that a person weighing y would need. This may be too much or may be too little, - eating too little puts your body into starvation mode and when in starvation mode, it holds onto everything it gets! Eating too much and excess gets stored as fat.
For weightwatchers, you do the quiz and it tells you how much you need to be eating to lose weight sensibly. The recipies all take into consideration the calories etc, but sho you how to make a tasty but healthy meal.If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
On the subject of losing weight (I need to!) Does anyone have any inspiration for someone who cannot do weight-bearing exercise of any sort, and cannot attend groups like SW or WW - two reasons, 1. I have no means to get there, and 2. I have bad social phobia to the extent that I can't join a self-help group for social phobics!
Basically I have to do this at home, on my own. I am a vegetarian, and actually don't eat much, and find that I feel full after about three mouthfuls.
Typical day:
5:30am: Cup of black tea without sugar
7:15am: Quarter of a slice of toast with jam (no butter) My husband makes a slice and I have quarter of it, otherwise I'd not bother with breakfast.
Half a glass of grapefruit juice.
12:00 noon: Half a homemade roll with cheese (again, no butter) I tried having a whole one but found it too much so went back to having half.
3:00pm: Banana
7:15pm: Small helping of dinner, eg veggie shepherd spy OR pasta in cheese sauce OR other veggie meal
8:30pm Small helping of fruit pie (homemade). I have to have a break between main course and dessert, hence the dessert being eaten so much later. I don't always have dessert at all.
I also drink copious amounts of water throughout the day.
Ideas, inspiration and encouragement welcome! If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
