Option 2 is the one you want.
Make sure both computers are in the same workgroup: right-click My Computer - Properties - Computer Name tab - Change button. Workgroup name should be the same on both machines. The workgroup name should appear under Microsoft Windows Network when you browse for the printer. Expand the workgroup name and the printer name should be listed.0 -

On PC two, open a command prompt, type ipconfig then note down the Wireless Adapter's IP Address. Go to PC1, open a command prompt, type "ping " then the IP Address of PC2 (without the quotes). You should get 4 replies.0 -

Option 2 is still the one - try typing in \\computername\printername, where computername is the name of desktop PC and printername is share name of the printer. Also make sure that the Server service is running on the desktop m/c (Start - Run - type in services.msc and click OK).0 -
It's working now - thanks guys much appreciated0
