Its excellent for constipation also. Take a couple of teaspoons a day for a couple of days and it will soon shift it! :j

I use it in my hair - brilliant

I use it on my skin - fantastic

    I cook with it

I dont use it on my face however as I have oily skin and Im scared of spots!!

    Its a keeper for me.
  • I take a teaspoon on its own each morning as I cant stand fish oils, was told its a good way of getting some essential fatty acids.
  • I will give this a go!

Fern, does it not give you spots tho? And does it absorb alright as was thinking it might be a bit claggy for a facial moisturiser? Got blocked pores already you see.............:o

    Hiya
It is not supposed to give you spots....it apparently has a ph of 5.5 like jojoba oil and is safe for skin as it doesn't clog pores.......read this earlier as this post got me interested in buying some coconut.

Was gonna buy some virgin coconut form ebay it is form an aromatherapy person that has all the specialist oils is nice and cheap about £6.00 for 250g is there anywhere cheaper and better??

It sounds good, i love jojoba but i adore coconut smell and really want to try some see if it is as good lol :)

I get mine from Akamuti, it's more expensive at £3.95 for 120ml but it's excellent quality. I've bought some from ebay before because it was cheaper but it just didn't seem to be as good so I've gone back to Akamuti. The one I got from ebay didn't smell of anything but the Akamuti one is nice and coconutty.

I've not tried it for years but the smell takes me back to the Caribbean.

I'm sure my skin felt better and felt I smelt good enough to eat:D

I've not found that it gave me any spots. It absorbs fine, it's quite light - not like olive oil.

For blocked pores try the oil cleansing method, search this forum for lots of info on that. It's great and I've been using it for ages. Won't use anything else now :)

It works really well on raw blisters for me as it hardens the skin up almost like magic. Didn't know there was different qualities so will look at investing in the more 'pure' versions.

I followed up Fern's link to Coconoil and had one of their 10litre containers delivered £75 that's 20 x 500g pots or £3.75 a pot.
It's quite easy to use a bulk container. I just put the bulk container of solid CO in the airing cupboard overnight and next morning it's liquid and I decant it off into smaller pots then return it to a cool place where it sets again. I hope next Summer will be warm enough for it to remain liquid most of the time but that's because I want a decent summer not because it's a problem putting the CO in the airing cupboard.

I really like it. I use it for cooking, adding to my coffee instead of cream. Because it's a good scource of Medium Chain Triglycerides MCT it's ideal for people on a low carbohydrate diet. It provides an instant energy source equivalent to the glucose your brain was burning and makes it easier for your brain to switch to burning your own fat which is what we want to happen if we want to lose weight.

I am told it makes a good skin lubricant.;) and as it is solid at room temperature but melts at body temperature I can see it has advantages.
Not used it as a beauty aid but was recently asked what I do to keep my skin looking so good and as I'm a 65yr old male was somewhat taken aback. I think it's eating low carb generally but maybe it's also the coconut oil as well.

By the way CO is anti inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti bacterial and anti fungal so the chances are it's going to help.
