    do i have to bother with the aspect ratio in the mpeg4 modifier

    With your model DVD player, I never once had to alter any Divx/Xvid (I'm talking about a lot of films/shows). I burnt them straight to disc, and every one played fine on this player. Just burn your files straight to disc as Divx (data disc) and play them. I had no complaints with this model DVD player and Divx compatability.
