It depends on the file size really they normally come as 700mb, 250mb, 350mb are popularly sizes. You can fit 6X700mb and still have almost 300mb left assuming its a 4.3gb disc.

no it was not the size as had 12 x 330 mb which is well under the 4.3 gb

also dvd santa is great used before but this is why bought new dvd player so i did not have to bother with conversion
  • Hi

As Reg Mundi says, "you don't have to convert divx if you have a divx compatible player, just burn as data, and you should be fine".
You don't need to use DvdSanta or any other converter, just burn them straight to disc.
I totally agree with this, I don't know about you, but I was certaintly getting confused.

Well I did original state in my 1st post, "assuming you dvd player doesn't support mpeg 4 (DivX or XViD)" it was Brummybloke that confuses things.

Some divx do need converting particularly if they have packed bitstream, however it takes a few minutes conversion with a simply tool.

Old divx player had problems with Qpel encoded files. Note that not all divx players are the same uses various chipsets some better than others.

I have no idea tbh as my local Asda is 66 miles away and rarely go there. I got a Kiss DP500 cost £180 2 years ago and a Yamada 6700 which costs £40 last Summer and is much better, never buy Kiss again, support is utter rubbish. Its in the loft gathering dust, whata waste of money that was.

You may still need that tool as I often use it. Very easy to use, load up file and click on packed bistream if it contains and and save using a different name

    ROFLMAO..........

I hope you have better luck than we did with this model. We changed ours three times, and still had the same problem. We took our last one back for a refund.

It played Divx/Xvid fine, but playing 'normal' DVDs was sometimes a problem. We have got a few box sets of TV shows (bought legally in a shop). We found that all our models of this DVD player sometimes skipped the first 15 to 30 minutes of a show. It happened randomly and without warning. We could watch the first 2 episodes on a DVD, then the third would jump to midway through the program. Restarting the DVD worked sometimes. We found this annoying enough to change the model a few times at first, thinking it was just a glitch with that player. After 3 changes, we got a full refund. It wasn't the DVDs, because we have an old DVD player that played them fine.

Let's hope this problem has been sorted out, and you have better luck than we did.

Just a thought have you checked if there a firmware update. Not sure of the make but iften firmware where you burn a small image from there support site on to a cdr (uses with nero) and insert into dvdplayer, switch on and it will update teh firmware. Its just a thought, but I have always kept to to date with latest firmwares.

Theres few chipsets around for dvd so often they teher are mnay brands using teh same chipset. Have a look min google for company Asda and make see if tehre one kicking around. There always an element of risk with any updates ie power failure just like with pc's
