  • Cash isn't processed elsewhere, anyway. By machine or cashier, it's done in branch.

Thants not entirely true though is it !

Eh? I understood ShelfStacker's point, which is that the branch is the only place you can pay cash in (apart from banks which let you do it through the Post Office, but it's the same sort of thing).
  • Thiis is whey off topic now..

Has everyone agreed that they need to have cleared funds in their account the day before a d / so is paid out?

Im confused as to what the issue is now?

I think the issue was moaning about that fact, which you acknowledge so accurately ldavies (at least for most banks).

Sorry I didnt mean to mislead anyone... Im a dreaded bank manager...

Bank closes at 5pm then team stay until 6ish and myself about 715.. majority of my work is operations.. its easier and quicker when there is nobody about to distract me lol

Dreaded? Unless things have changed since I was a BM, customers neither dread, like, or respect us anymore...

Anyway, 7pm closing at 5pm is ridiculous! Who are you with? I assume you're salaried. I hope your bonuses make up for that. That's truly terrible.

And what do you mean by operations?

  • Hi guys it was me who started this topic and I was just having a rant. I know the money has to be in the day before and I know its up to you to make sure the money is in your account but sometimes things happen and you mess up. Well I do unfortunatley. I just think it would be a fairer system if it was set up that if your money wasnt in at the end of that day then it was returned unpaid. My other gripe was that techincaly your money never ever left your account so you were not overdrawn. Its just my point of view and not meant to annoy or offend anyone:o

The result of having unpaids register on your account could do so much more damage to your credit history than paying on your behalf and having a fee, its untrue, never mind the fees for doing so.. This is why it is usually the bank decision to pay and take you overdrawn and charge you for doing so.

Either way, I understand that this costs but in the long term, people need to ensure that all their payments are made to protect their credit histories.

Banks will stop making the payments if it becomes a regular occurance and this is where the damage begins.

Non payments are usually seen as the first official sign of financial difficulty ans I would urge anyone who is experiencing this to go to their branch and speak to someone before it turns bad.
  • Sorry, I forgot to add that I think there is usually 3 strikes and the bank can cancel either the direct debit or standing authority which ultimately causes issues with the beneficiary of the payment.. Its like a pack of cards...
  • Sorry, just one more..... HSBC now consult all the credit reference agencies and not only experian as it used to.

There is a 2 floor Barclays Branch in manc cc that is open 7 days a week and open till 8pm on some evenings, which is staffed with machines and cashier, personal bankers etc - so I would say that bank hours are def getting longer.
It's the only one of it's kind in the UK, and even though I've never been in (don't bank with them) it's v nice looking. Bit like a posh department store- what with it's coffee sofa area, kids area etc.
I think it's def useful if ur working till 7pm and only manage to grab a 30min lunch.
