Having worked on a contract basis all over the world since 1990, my experience is that when companies hit hard times they are no less likely to lay-off staff.

As an old contractor told me, the only difference between staff & contract is three weeks! After all statutory redundancy payments are laughable.

One more pearl of wisdom I picked up in my travels is that the only true form of security is cash in the bank. Even that is now looking dodgy!
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

When you start taking DD up on his stream of baiting posts as readily as you jump on a solitary post from me, I'll take your stance seriously.

If I actually took him off ignore and answered his non stop slagging we'd see even less rational debate.

Oh !!!!!! you have gone on about me being personal and offensive to people and I have said exactly the same to you.

Either don't do it, put up with it, but don't go on about personal and offensive coments when it suits you and then make them yourself.

Careful Really - he'll be pulling out a post from the archives to show that you started it first and he is only letting people know that the market would crash at some point.

I've said UK average house prices are above the long term rend and need o correct to this.
I've also said that some areas will be affected more than others.
I do believe in the long term that house will recover and surpass the 2007 peak.

Which category does that put me in then !!!!!!?
A bull that thinks house prices need to correct
    or
A bear that thinks house prices will surpass the 2007 peak.

You haven't said anything there that I'd disagree with.

If you believe house prices are set to drop then you're bearish.

As for the longer term, of course some day prices will surpass the peak. Doesn't make it a good idea to buy in now with the market set to drop probably another 15% from the peak though.

Getting back to the rational question.

Do you think it is a rational statement to label people bulls AND state that they cannot make rational, detached judgements?
Please read what I said. People tend to divide into two groups when it comes to which way the market will go.

In my opinion quite a few people who would be loosely described as 'bullish' are in fact just getting into straightforwards personality clashes by this stage of the game. Evidence of this is that they slag off people giving a bearish prognosis as negative or doom mongering but never actually seem to come up with a counter argument as to why anyone would be bullish about the market.

You can complain all you like about the fact that I 'label people bulls' (and as I've said more than once, it's a loose description for want of a better term) but you seem to ignore the constant refrain of 'doom monger' , 'talking the market down' , 'negative person' coming from the usual suspects.

I suggest you take a more balanced view of the non-stop noise coming from a group of people here who seem to do nothing other than cast personal aspersions if you want to criticise my use of the the term 'bull' as being pejorative.

Agree 100%. I had a nasty experience where the agency paying me messed around with both me and the client (very long story) and I ended up owed 3 months wages with no sign of when I was going to get them or even if they'd pony up the current month's salary which was due, taking it to four months arrears.

Absolutely insisted nothing could be done, problems getting cash from the client etc. etc. until I went and hired the best litigation lawyer that I could find from my stash of savings.

Got half the arrears with the next month's salary and the rest over the following three months, then terminated my contrct with them (I was tied with them for that client otherwise) and moved do a different agent.

As long as you're sitting on a pile of cash you have considerably more room to manoeuvre never mind contracts or promises. As you say, you can't even be sure of your cash savings these days (bank busts, possible inflation down the line).

1st rule of contracting - always use reputable recruitment agencies who are on Preferred Supplier Lists.

I agree. It's a disgrace and something should be done about him. Carolt is just as bad. Martin should kick those two off MSE and do the rest of us a favour.
