I was in the same position, only the other way around. I was trying to move from Natwest to RBS because the Natwest branch is miles away. Eventually I managed to get it all sorted but it took about a month overall. I got my £200 overdraft, the 6 credit checks that they completed on me and my full maestro card also. If you keep having problems put in a complaint to the branch manager. In RBS, the branch manager at the city branch in Glasgow was excellent and managed to get it all sorted.

With regards to your o/d when trying to fix the whole problem he applied for my account without the o/d as apparently its easier for them to add it on after the account is setup. He said that if he puts it on during the application and the system declines it, it declines the whole account. Sorry for the long rant, but hope I can help.
  • Right well I have just come off the phone to a guy in the retail telephony care team, he was very helpful and is raising this a complaint with the branch I opened the account in, as it says I canthave an overdraft on the system so I shouldnt of been told I could.
Im not sure why I cant have one, he is looking into that aswell and will try and sort one out for me when he comes back with a response from my branch.

I got two solo Maestro cards, one for my currrent and one for my savings? never had a solo before though are they as widely accepted as normal maestro? Or is like an electron?

It's not a Maestro card if it says Solo I am afraid. Do you have a Highline card or a Cashline card with RBS? The Solo is like the Cashline card I am afraid. No cheque guarantee and there are a few places which don't accept it :(

  • It says solo on the front but has the maestro sign on the back of them both and I got cheque book aswell so It must be the same as a meastro? I have meastro and cheque book with Rbs too, royalties gold account.

it like a electron card checks your balance on every transaction, you will be able to upgrade in the future once moneys been going in, if you already have a maestro with RBS and an O/D with them as well it might be worth staying with them, solo is okay but Maestro is better.

No the card you have got with Natwest is a Solo if it says Solo on the front. The back symbol is for reference when abroad I believe.

Your Solo card does not have the cheque guarantee facility. You will see on your RBS there is a hologram with a number in it but the Solo card will not feature this :)

  • So why would they send me a cheque book aswell? And my paperwork all says Current account plus.

well it's a current account plus its the same as what my brother has, they opened him a current plus account but did get a servicecard straight away nor did he get an O/D. but 3 months later they changed his card to an maestro one with a cheque guarantee on.
If you are that annoyed take in your maestro card which goes with your RBS and ask them to match what you got with RBS it may be worth a shot.
