The agency did all they can and even talked to the company with my feedback re their actions/ the assignment. I was just told by them a moment ago that the manager/company even wanted to speak to me and tell me that it wasnt that I wasnt a competent lovely person but apparently employment laws don't allow it???
The girl from the agency I have been dealing with over the last 2 days has been absolutely lovely and IMO has gone above and beyond doing all she can for me and making it her mission to find me something even tho she is based up North. God love her she has had quite a lot of me and my comments and my tears today and is feeling bad that "she " has upset me so much. She has offered me some advice and even thinks that I would be really good at recruitment consultancy myself just from talking to me which is an avenue I have thought about before.I know that it cant have been easy for her to listen to me during the calls.
Well, it sounds as though your agency has done as much as they can. But as for the company - what a load of old rubbish, there is no employment law that says you can't treat people with decency and respect and speak to them face to face, even if you are making them redundant!! (Sorry, getting on my high horse there, but I worked in HR for 7 years up until about 18 months ago and it is very hard having to tell people that they have lost their job, for whatever reason, but I would never have treated someone that way - that's part and parcel of their job).
I have been made redundant 3 times in the past 20 years and it is always horrible but I have always (if not immediately) gone on to bigger, better and more fulfilling jobs. Sending you lots of good luck vibes. :A0 -
Goochie it was the agency that said I couldnt talk to the peeps @ Company X not the company themselves who very much wished to talk to me face to face. Ironically I did work in HR.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Thank you. I have been made redundant 6 times and had more than a few "messabouts" in agency roles so I know how it goes. I knew that they don't call your answerphone@ 5.55 "as a matter of urgency" for anything other than dumping you. Sadly they know at companies they can do this. Ditch you at a seconds notice. I once had a call on the bus as I was on the way home similar - as I have always been a bit OS and green it was a same situation where i had lunch in the fridge and a mug etc. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Oops, told you I was getting on my "high horse", obviously misunderstood your post, sorry. You obviously have experience in these matters, but still no less horrible for you. Anyway, still sending good luck vibes.0 -
Thank you. I am still sitting here waiting for an email to tell me when I can go over to pick my stuff up and return my pass. I have to go see a friends little girl sing in the local mall @ 6 so I hope it is soon. Even if it only takes 20 mins to get there.
I am more than a little PO'd as there is perishable food I put in the fridge yesterday for todays lunch which I coudl have had for tonights lunch or dinner and I do not want to be even more financially out of pocket in losing another meal in addition to the Xmas Party 3 course dinner with wine and beer etc that they are denying me tomorrow even tho I have the ticket.
I wonder what would happen if i turned up tho lolWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Caterina, what is a freegan ?
A freegan is someone who lives for free as much as possible, a bit like an OSer to the nth potency!
See this:

Reverbe, I am really sorry to hear about you losing your job in such a nasty undehanded way, I hope you find another job soon, a much better than this one (and if applicable a nice revenge served cold!).
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Well.....frankly if things are that tough for you financially - I would ring the company (blow whatever the agency says about it) and say "Look - I need that food in the fridge and I want it NOW (politely phrased) and I HAVE paid for that Xmas Party - so I will have to turn up just to eat my food, unless you give me a refund of my money" and I darn well would turn up for my meal - and then promptly go - personally (but I have had to learn to be rather "determined" over the years - and you might find that too hard to do - which I would quite understand) - and I think they might well wish to avoid the potential embarrassment of you coming and hand you your entrance money back. I CAN only speak for myself on that one - I could and would turn up for my meal - and my employer knows that I am that determined. I dont actually know what yours is like - but what have you got to lose by threatening to come to get your "moneys worth" if you dont get your ticket refunded?
I dont really understand why it seems your job agency is trying to stop you talking direct to your (ex)firmI dont see a valid reason for that - personally I would be contacting your (ex)firm and just not mentioning it to the job agency. If they ask - well, you needed to get in touch fast to get that perishable food back - I can understand that - I wouldnt be pleased about that myself.
I see all the comments about pretending you never received that ansafone message - and I must say that thought crossed my mind subsequently - and I wondered if that would be a good tactic - and, yes, I'm pretty certain that I would have pretended I never got that message and gone in anyway. EDIT: I quite definitely would have gone in anyway - both to "have a word" with them and to fetch my stuff.
On a different tack - I am wondering why you say you wouldnt get any benefit- obviously we dont know your circumstances. I am wondering whether you havent paid sufficient N.I. contributions for one type of benefit - but you might perhaps get the means-tested one....I do think its worth checking to be sure and certain whether you are entitled to anything or no - its extremely low frankly - but its something - so worth seeing if you CAN get it.
Maybe its something worth following up - the possibility of a job with the job agency itself - worth asking a few queries to see. Even if its not much of a job (I dont know) - its something to tide you over whilst you keep looking (and get the info on whats available).
Regarding your partner not having texted you back yet - there may be an innocent explanation of that - maybe they went somewhere and forgot their phone/maybe their phone isnt quite working properly/etc. I would keep trying to contact them and see whats what with them when you DO manage to get in contact with them.
EDIT: I am still thinking "on the hoof" here - and I personally would be regarding my presence/or otherwise at that Christmas meal that you have paid for as a negotiating point - summat along the lines of "you give me a goodwill payment for mucking me about and I wont turn up and embarrass you at that meal" - say the meal cost you £20 for the ticket for instance - then £200 would ensure you dont turn up for that meal (ie £20 refund and £180 goodwill gesture) - that line of thinking anyways. You would be a right "skeleton at the feast" if you did come - and management would be nervous about the rest of the staff having their night "disturbed" if you did come. But - as I said - I could and would do that if need be - but it has to be said that I have personally had decades of being single and having to "stand up for myself" whether I liked it or no. I have the impression that you are noticeably younger than middle-aged me - so I appreciate you may well not have had the enforced experience I have of having to do the "stand up for oneself" thing.
Best wishes - whatever you decide to do.

..and on a different tack....just come across this article.....by an American who apparently has a good track record of accurate predictions....:

Hmmmm......whaddya think? I'm just thinking "20 years ago or even 10 years ago it wouldnt be the case that people like Moany Moany, Caterina and myself were thinking that if we lived in the same locality we'd be out there doing a spot of dumpster diving together - to make a point basically (in our case)" - our respective grey hairs would preclude that....0 -
oh Ceridwen thats heavy stuff .. in the link I mean. But it doesnt look like scaremongering.0
