Thank you Mags. I am actually feeling totally worthless and gutted. I gave up the chance to work in M & S over Xmas for this job cos it was better pay and prospects. I think that the company are being totally unreasonable as by all acounts it is a massive company with so much to learn that the induction to the company alone takes 3 whole days. There are many new systems and processes and I am still in training. The company ethos is to value integrity and be an open company with communication and they have a never be afraid to raise a point/ask a q policy. I have had tech issues and issues getting access to the various online systems and also when I am trained on the job it either hasnt been given to me yet or given in like here it is , 2 mins of explanation, you know how to do it now ok type.
I really don't know what I am going to do to keep myself going as I won't get benefits.
I am sorry to hear your bad news. I agree with retiredlady though, companies don't usually leave a message on your answermachine - did you sign a contract with them? If so, what was the notice period? Very unprofessional way to treat staff - I would complain to the HR department and ask why you were effectively offered a promotion and then "let go" by answermachine. Ask for them to put this in writing. ((Hugs)).0 -
Reverbe, thats a disgusting way to be treated, no matter how big or small the company maybe. Such a large company should have an HR department and that is who you should be talking to, IMO.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Again thank you to everyone who has posted to me and offered me advice/sympathy at this hard time. It melts my heart to read this when my partner of 5 years can't even be bothered to text me back, it is good to see some love in the world.
I hope things get better for everyone on this thread.
I'm waiting to see if I can collect my stuff and do the decent thing and hand the security pass back in. I still respect the company not the man and will do the decent thing etc. Hopefully might be able to go over there today and their branch of Marks gave some free stuff away last time so...

Hi everyone. I am another 'long time lurker' and love the old style threads. Two earlier posts have inspired me to finally join in.
Reverbe- I am sending hugs to you. I really felt for you when you said you had been at your lowest point. I hope you can get some answers from your workplace.
CharlotteandEden - I have been a single parent for almost 7 years now. My daughter is 12 and for the first time in my life I am approaching some financial security. I have two part time jobs which add up to 31 hours a week and I go to college one day a week. I just want to say that being a single parent is much harder than most people realise, (especially when you have a baby,) but you are doing the right things. Thanks to this site I learnt about doing surveys and saving up ipoints. I use Topcashback if I buy online and I batch cook meals in advance. It is hard but you will get through it and you can be proud of yourself for coping on your own.
Hello to all the other old stylers. I have always been an old styler but didnt know it until I found this site!

Dreadful today I have to say. Just started the best job I have ever had with a lovely large company which has great prospects and they offered me a pay increase cos I impressed them so much. This is only halfway through my second week while I am still in training effectively. Today there was a message on my answer phone when I came home from work. I won't be required. 2 days before the Xmas Party I was invited to and felt a part of the XX company family. I had already bought some costume jewellery and a wrap to jazz up an old dress cos it was black tie too.
This is totally shocking way to be treated:mad: ...I would give those fab folks at your local Citizens Advice a call and see what they say. Job Centre peeps can be quite helpful too.Did you sign a contract??
Good Luck!Spreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -
Reverbe, no matter what you do get everything in writing. No company can just 'let you go' via answerphone! This is totally unprofessional and probably flouting some law or another.
what a joke of a business...you can get compensation probably. If you can go and see you local CAB, THEY CAN HELP!!!:ASpreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -
Morning!
Reverbe - what a horrible thing to happen. As you were placed by an agency have you tried speaking to them? They won't be best pleased as they will have lost their commission I would guess, get them to find out what is going on and why. Good luck though and fingers crossed that a fab job turns up quickly xx
I'm meant to be on the computer ordering some more stuff from Approved Foods, ds and dd1 were well and truly impressed by the stuff I got and the prices! ds has taken all the coke to sell to his mates at school - hope he's going to give me back the 20p per bottle that it cost lol! dd2 has written the name down to pass onto a couple of her teachers, they are fairly os and seem to do a lot of things the same way we do, one of them even has a remoska!
Looking forward to tonight, I'm going flower arranging, I don't actually possess any artistic ability but I'm quite good at copying things, so I'm expecting to create a masterpiece for pennies, ha ha! Will be asking for lots of tips on making swags and wreaths as well, then just need to collect up stuff from the woods with the kids and get making!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
This WAS working in their HR Department. It was a HR Manager that made this unreasonable decision and TBH was not above deception as he told the agency who placed me an out and out lie that he spent 2 hrs with me yesterday. The man merely showed me the way to the canteen @ lunchtime.
That's even worse  - have you spoken to the agency and explained your side, and asked them to speak to their client and find out what is going on - they have a duty of care to you as their candidate to find out what happened and fight your corner.xx0 -

The agency did all they can and even talked to the company with my feedback re their actions/ the assignment. I was just told by them a moment ago that the manager/company even wanted to speak to me and tell me that it wasnt that I wasnt a competent lovely person but apparently employment laws don't allow it???
The girl from the agency I have been dealing with over the last 2 days has been absolutely lovely and IMO has gone above and beyond doing all she can for me and making it her mission to find me something even tho she is based up North. God love her she has had quite a lot of me and my comments and my tears today and is feeling bad that "she " has upset me so much. She has offered me some advice and even thinks that I would be really good at recruitment consultancy myself just from talking to me which is an avenue I have thought about before.I know that it cant have been easy for her to listen to me during the calls. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Reverve, I dont have anything more to add than the other lovely people on this thread have said. I think it is shocking the way you have been treated and I can understand your distress.
Look on it as maybe the best thing that could have happened and it is great that the recruitment company have been so supportive. Often these are run by people who have really no interest in the person they are placing apart from the commission from the placement. It may be that you can get into recruitment consultancy and I'm sure the advice given is invaluable so look on this as a stepping stone. It is the other company's loss.
Take a deep breath and take Ceridwen's advice. Instead of the Xmas night out give yourself some pampering and a couple of glasses of wine.
I just want to give you hugs and tell you that you are in my thoughts. I hope things work out for you soon sweetie.0
