I have been asked not to go in.But I am disgusted that this could have been solved by a 10 min face to face discussion rather than a behind my back termination. This is not the intergrity this company prides itself on. Also the guy who made the decision was my supposed line manager. I met this chap only twice - one yesterday and once last week and the man has not said but 10 words or so to me.He certainly does not even see how I am coping at work cos he works in another branch.

Yes but have you actually spoken to someone or was this just from the message? Do they know you got the message or could you just pretend it is a normal day and turn up 'oblivious'

Not easy to do I know..........

Potential interest rate cut to be announced today. That will help those of us on non-fixed mortage products. Its certainly helped us, the last interest rate cut meant that our mortgage this month is about £250 less than last month and that had been reduced £70 odd! The interest rate cuts have really saved our bacon atm. Next year looks a little more promising, just wonder how long they will stay down for and how quickly they will rise at the end of it. I think our mortgage needs reviewing in August but we have a superb financial advisor who hasn't let us down yet so I hope we can get onto a good product then.
  • I am going to add my story after reading this thread for ages. I am not comfortable at all. I am a single mum bringing my daughter up on benefits. I have been trying to find a job for ages with no luck. MSE is keeping me sane at the minute and without it I wouldn't be able to do Christmas this year. I have managed to get loads of things for free as Christmas presents from the Amazon voucher from Qype and Ipoints. I am so frugal at the minute but it is working so well. I buy one largeish chicken a week and from that I can make three meals with some left over to freeze. We are living off stews, soups and corned beef hash but it is working well and I feel that we are eating really healthily and cheaply which is good. I am buying my fruit and veg from tesco as I can get the value market range cheaply, a butternut squash is 69p!

As for next year we have started the sealed pot challenge and hope to reach a target of £500. I am going to make raised beds for veg and I can't wait to get planting. We will still be eating on the cheap and making huge batches of food and freezing them. I totally want to start stockpiling in the cupboard as at the minute that isn't working brilliantly. My daughter will no longer be on formula so that will save us a good £7 a week. And finally we have been given a voucher for £45 from the council to get washable nappies so we are going to give them a go and hopefully save some more money.

I'go in and raise hell (politely in case they get security to throw you out LOL). Demand to know why the decision was taken, and let them know what you think of their spineless way of doing it. Amd also hope very much it happens to him too one day !

I would be asking him how they could go from "offering you a pay rise because you impressed them so much" to sending you a text like that! If the text did come from them I would be raising such a stink. And surely they must give you some amount of notice to leave or pay you the required notice time?
Also if you are going to complain go 2 steps up - not your bosses boss - but his boss! The higher the better!

  • Reverbe if they are such a big company which prides itself on itegrity I can't see how they can sack you on an answerphone message. I really would go into work today as has been suggested and pretend you didn't get the message. Then when they speak to you demand to know what's going on. Have you signed a contract or will they give you a redundancy letter as this will help in getting in benefits? Good luck with it and let u know how you get on. And don't worry, hard not to do I know, but something will turn up and with a bit of luck it will better than working for them

Reverbe, thats a disgusting way to be treated, no matter how big or small the company maybe. Such a large company should have an HR department and that is who you should be talking to, IMO.

Reverb - sorry about your job. But if it's a company where people can be dispensed with by an answerphone message it doesn't say much for the way they value their employees so perhaps working for them might not have proved to be such a pleasant experience once you'd got your feet under the table. Do hope you find something else soon.
