I was wondering if the cost of buying tubs/bins/bags plus compost is maybe more than the cost of tomatoes & tatties ! Even if I use any old things I have, it still takes a fair bit of compost to fill them. Maybe we should keep an eye open for cheap compost...0

I've just bought a 'paper brickette' maker today. I'm hoping that will help with our heating. I've got coal being delivered so that will mean less central heating....
I've also started waiting for everyone else to start complaining about the cold before putting the heating on as I'm the one who feels it most!0 -

Miss Behaving - it's silly. I know the 2.5% vat cut wasn't much but it would of helped alittle, and if other stores start putting their prices up too this is just going to get worse.0

Just caught the end of something on bbc saying because of new emissions rules or something, gas & elect are going to go up again. ( didnt hear it all so it might be just plans and not fact ). I think then, if it went up again, that would be the time for a mass refusal to pay bills. Because if we let them get away with it then of course they're going to do it. But reading posts in here, so many people are in dire straights that surely to god they will dig heels in and NOT HAVE IT !!!
And if tescos & asda are putting prices up then GO ELSEWHERE. The power is with the buyer, to take their money elsewhere . Oooh getting all militant here!

I've been reading the blog of a guy in the UK who is going a whole year without spending anything. In his first blog there was a link to a news report of a man who got trampled to death in Black Friday sales in America. Really makes you think. Sadly, I've lost the link!0 -
DD(19) just phoned-the bill for gas for the student house has just arrived and they are a lot over what they had bargained for.
She has decided she is going to spend even more of her time in the student library where it is warm and get herself a warm fleecy throw and a couple of hot water bottles for when sitting watching telly etc. Told her I would pay her back for the throw and hot water bottles as an early Christmas present.
Glad she wll be home in about ten days and we can keep her warm and fed for the three weeks before she goes back to Newcastle.
Her room is the coldest in the house as they cannot bleed the radiator so suggested turnng valve using rubber glove etc."This site is addictive!"

I'd be interested in reading that blog if you can find a link.
The report of the store worker getting trampled to death was very sad, sadder still the reports of peoples reaction to being told they had to leave the store because of the fatality and refusing to do so because they had qued for over 24 hours.0
