You can make compost yourself by cutting the bottom out of one strong - or 2 value - bin bags. Get a large cardboard box and put it on the ground with the bottom open. Put the bag(s) over and fill the box with any veg peelings, dead plants - anything like that. Try to chop it up small as it will make it rot faster.

As time goes, put in grass cuttings, straw or anything you can get hold of including ordinary soil every so often. As the bag fills you can fasten the top.

Start a new bag. You can get stuff to speed it up - it should be nice and full by spring and compost nicely by the summer. The open bottom will allow worms in.

The report of the store worker getting trampled to death was very sad, sadder still the reports of peoples reaction to being told they had to leave the store because of the fatality and refusing to do so because they had qued for over 24 hours.

Reading it made me feel quite sick, how could people do that? Surely if they continued buying when they looked at their reduced TV or half priced game console all they'd think of is that poor guy?

Found the link, was quite interesting lunchtime reading!! www.justfortheloveofit.org/blog.php

Moany, thats a great idea for compost thankyou ! :)
  • I went into our local Lidl yesterday for fruit and veg as its usually cheaper than tescos and i have to say there was not much of a difference with the prices, there was hardly any fruit but plenty of veg. So, I'm not sure if they're putting prices up too.

Who else goes to the market instead of any of the supermarkets (budget ones included) for fruit and veg? My freezer is still packed with blanched potatoes and carrots from a trip weeks ago, plus bananas frozen before going off (ready for banana cake when my current batch of scones runs out). Plus apples and pomegranates still in the fridge. I can't have spent more than three quid and that wasn't all I got at the time, I think there were tomatoes and onions too. (Lovely tomatoes, properly ripe like you never get in a supermarket, nice on home-made toasted bread with pate from a 29p tube).
  • wigglebeena, I get my fruit and veg from the markets when I've run out of what I've grown myself. I agree that it's much cheaper and better quality and of course not flipping pre-packed!
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Thank you Caterina, I'm not in the public sector but with my work they are paying me half pay for a year instead of six months as it's work related.

Guapa, check whether you could swing full pay for the year, I am not sure of the details but you might be entitled - ACAS (the link I gave you) or even the Health and Safety Executive http://www.hse.gov.uk should have this info or be able to direct you.

The CAB is also good but it is always difficult to see them as they are so busy!

    Best wishes

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I've referred people to ACAS before - always a success!

It is important to ensure that you get what you are ENTITLED to.

There are many things I've  _pale_  :wall::mad: & over but ultimately I am drawn to a comment someone posted in the previous thread...this is OUR garden wall for the 21st century, a place where we can come together to "put the world to rights" &--please all the Deities--Long May It Reign!
We don't have to agree with one another all the time & let's be honest, where would Inspiration come from if we did  It's just wonderful to know that there are like-minded souls to share a chin-wag regardless of clock or weather....& the politicians can't do a bluddin thing to EVER change that :j
:T :T :T BigMummaF Perhaps we should sub title this thread GERT & DAISY. TBH there is far more sense both fiscal & practical on the forum pages than all the so called proffesionals put togehter [I do not include polititcians in the term proffesional, most do not live in the real world] I would love to see one of them have the bottle to live on just less than £200 per wk the amount the government says is a living amount.

Is that a living amount per person or per family?
