    I've been Money Tipped!
Just wanted to send ((hugs)) to Westywoodpecker's and Elizabunnys ds's. I was so sad to hear about their redundancies! As we found with our dd it takes a while to get over the shock of redundancy (like running into a brick wall) dd is now more up to dealing with it all and has even said that maybe some good would come out of it, she was working all hours, weekends and evenings (no overtime) and not seeing her friends, or having time for hobbies, exercise etc., now she has time to re-think her life and priorities, so a silver lining of sorts!

DD had a lovely job, a wonderful opportunity but the timing was wrong, I know she is grateful that she had the chance to do all she has. My Mum used to have a saying "looking back - give thanks, looking forward - take courage" and that is what she is now doing, maybe something we should all do.

It is hard to see the silver lining sometimes but re-thinking our priorities in this recession may be the key!

Yategirl - I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

How lucky we are to have the support on this thread and to have the internet as a resource.:T

    Hi,

I have two sons in their twenties and when asked what they wanted for Christmas one said thermal underwear and the other asked for books from the classic range which cost £1.99 each. I was SO PROUD! Our hard times have produced two very caring, considerate young men.

Jan - your sons sound like my daughters! :T

    Thanks for that link Ceridwen

I was trying to explain about this process the other day to a neighbour -who obviously thought I was a nut job :o ..I just didn't know the name for it
I am certainly interested in joining a group when I move back home.. My nearest one is Nottingham-which is quite a distance ... who knows, hopefully by then there will one closer..if not then i might just have to look into getting one going:D

ok -scrub that -there seems to be one in Mansfield which is as close as its going to get lol

You might be able to join one now - LETS is in various countries in continental Europe - as well as Britain. I've not checked - but I would imagine there are LETS groups in Germany - I'd be surprised if there isnt - as Germany is the "greenest" European country. The first LETS group started in Canada and LETS has been wending its way to and fro across the oceans ever since - there's also groups as far afield as Australia and New Zealand I believe.

I suggest you try and get hold of a copy of the book "LETS Work - rebuilding the local economy" by Peter Lang (its a 1994 book - but Amazon might have copies - and it could be that its been reprinted subsequently. - tis a very readable book and contains model constitutions, etc for those wishing to form a group.

    Might be summat on this?

  • My heart goes out to all you lovely people that are facing redundancies and unemployment in your families. It is so important to have such a good support from somewher like this. It takes away the feeling of "Im the only one going through this"

I am like lots of others, DH is in the situation where his company is making huge cuts so we are girding ourselves for the letter coming in.

I dont think the support of this forum can ever be underestimated both for tips and just being a close community.

Both the poota & I are suffering from bugs & today I've read thru the 15 pages I've missed by not being able to get online!
There are many things I've  _pale_  :wall::mad: & over but ultimately I am drawn to a comment someone posted in the previous thread...this is OUR garden wall for the 21st century, a place where we can come together to "put the world to rights" &--please all the Deities--Long May It Reign!
We don't have to agree with one another all the time & let's be honest, where would Inspiration come from if we did  It's just wonderful to know that there are like-minded souls to share a chin-wag regardless of clock or weather....& the politicians can't do a bluddin thing to EVER change that :j

Loopylou, not sure what the criteria is for the grant but if i am eligible it will be going into my ISA - so im keeping my fingers crossed - i hear it goes off the last yrs p60 and dps wage on that was just short of £19k i think, i havent earned much, definitely not over £4k so maybe 23k together ish  either way, ill be miffed if i dont get it - i know people who get it and blow it on an expensive pram - i want to save mine for when the family will need it most

Sending love and hugs to others worried over their futures, like a previous poster (sorry cant remember who - preggy brain) we need to stick together like the emperior penguins (especially since its been bloomin' freezing the past few days too lol) and we will get through this!

My dad came round to visit today he is generally (touch wood) ok at the moment re redundancies as well as my mum and sit with the heating on for most of the day. He came in a jumper and was freezing the whole time and told me it was freezing in my house but we cant afford to have the heating on alot and tbh dont think id want to, we manage, i know it will have to be on more when my little munchkin enters the world - there goes all my money - damn pre paid meters

Well, its late, off to bed now, wont sleep as i suffer from sore back and hips and heartburn and indigestion not to mention having to get up for a wee in the night  not fair! Tomorrow im preparing a load of meals and freezing them in portions - will probably take me all day but it will be worth it :)

    Hi Moany

Thanks so much... it was only my 2nd attempt this year and lots of things I hadn't done before -but I was amazed at how easy it was..so thought I should share ... especially with the price of food on the up
The newspaper idea is great thankyou :T .. I do use toilet roll tubes for lots of things like beans and peas ... so I will give that a try as out here the number of huge free papers we get is crazy ...
    thankyou:D

On a blog I saw a way of growing potatoes in a large tub/compost maker. You start of with 6" compost in the bottom, put the potatoes on the top. When the shoots appear and form little plants you put more compost - just leaving a few leaves. This goes on till the tub is full. This is the proper way - from the wonderful RHS http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0506/potatoespots.asp

We are going to do this next year.
