Taplady - stay strong not long now, and brake pads and handbrake cable are not that expensive (not compared to alot of stuff anyway). Sending hugs your way.

Home-made laundry detergent and dish-washer soap. I'm going to leave some unscented and have a go at using it for doing the washing-up as well. I've got some Fairy household soap for this batch but I have a pal coming over from Canada later this year and she's under strict instructions to bring me some Sunlight. I can't wait to give it a sniff. Oh, the memories

Oooh sounds interesting, dont suppose anyone could link the recipe please?
  • No, but I can type out two recipes for you, one with and one without borax:

Grate a bar of soap. Put in large saucepan with 1 1/2 litres of boiling water. Simmer and stir till soap dissolves. Add another 3 litres of hot water. Let cool then add 250 grammes of soda crystals. Stir until dissolved. Pour into 5 litre container/s

    Or

Grate a bar of soap add to 1 1/2 litres in saucepan an over medium heat. Stir until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup (4 fl oz) washing soda and 1/2 cup borax and stir until completely dissolved. If not completely dissolved mixture will separate once cooled. Remove mixture from heat and pour into bucket and fill with hot water from tap to make up ten litres of solution. Stir. Leave to cool and decant into container/s. Use 1/4 cup (2 fl oz) per washing-load. Does not make suds.

    Brilliant thanks,
  • Oh, I forgot to add that the grated soap and the soda crystals are the cleaning agents and I believe the borax can be added for brightening whites.

thanks Kidkat:) I'm feeling more optimistic today! I have been reading a true life book about someone who overcame tremendous odds to come out on top and it has inspired me - my problems are nothing in comparison so I know we will make it to the finishing line!:j

    Hello Everyone

Sorry I have not been around for a while, things here have been difficult and I have been getting bogged down in all the drama. Trying to get things back on an even keel and I hope you don't mind if I start popping back in?
