No1 took four & half hours to travel less than six miles yesterday  It wasn't so much the snow, but imbeciles who refused to consider the awful conditions & caused others to take evasive action  Thankfully the boss phoned & said not to bother going any further, as they'd heard Horsham had been virtually closed due to the accidents on the roads :o I just hope no-one was badly hurt, & can't help thinking what the effect all these bumps will have on motor insurance premiums for ALL us drivers

There's talk of flooding as the thaw begins, so what must those poor folk who were caught out last year be thinking
_pale_ I'm sorry, but the government has to take some of the blame for allowing centuries-old flood plains to become housing developments! And all this kibosh about "grow your own veg".....where  They want to take allotments around here now, & many have paved over their gardens to be able to park up...to save a bit on their bluddin insurance!!! It's a vicious circle where only the government benefit cuz of all the 'hidden' taxes we have to pay for one thing or another :mad::mad:

Yes - really time we had some joined up thinking in Government where all the departments actually talk to each other. Another thing which annoys me is are the current education and environment policies. Schools are no longer allowed only to accept pupils within their own cachment areas but have to be open to all, wherever they live, so what happens? Parents clog up the roads for miles around in their cars delivering their children to schools miles away whereas if all the children had an option to go to schools within easy distance of their homes, they could all walk. There would be less traffic on the roads during rush hours and carbon footprints would be drastically reduced across the country, reducing fuel consumption and improving the environment for everybody. Not exactly rocket science, is it?

I really cannot understand what is happening in this country. It seems to me that we are all so afraid to live a normal life incase someone comes along and sues/prosecutes us for doing it. We cannot send our children to school if it snows, in case they slip, fall etc. etc. I do remember 1963 and also some other rather snowy years and we were EXPECTED to turn up at school as normal, even if it was three miles away and we had to walk!

The kids used to deliberately make ice runs to slide about on and had great fun! We threw snowballs without fear of being sued and cleared our pavements and driveways for everyone's benefit. Now we're scared to take a shovel to our drives/paths incase our actions cause someone to slip over. This is just the tip of the iceberg and with some of the ADs on the tele, actively ecouraging the pursuit of claims, it appears that just about every mistake we may make is in danger of being turned into a offence.

It seems to me that we are encouraged to live in some kind of cocoon which stifles natural instinct and discourages personal decision making. I sometimes feel that my actions are not now a result of my own decisions but are a result of the decisions made by the powers that be. Quite frankly I am really fed up with this interference in our daily lives. With other people deciding what is good and what is not good for us, etc. etc. and on and on.

Ok so rant over now, but is all this interference really having a benefical effect on our country? Do we really need so many decisions being made for us. Perhaps if more of the decisions that effect our daily lives were left up to us, then there would be more time/money in the coffers for the powers that be to talk/spend on the kind of decisions that we expect to be made by them. Like sorting out crime, health service etc. etc. and putting in place some safeguards that would help protect this country from the kind of economic disaster that we have just seen and from which many of us are still suffering. These are the things we expect from our leaders.

Kidcat, there a scheme - can't think of the name of it at the moment, I'm sure someone will find it for you and I'll keep looking! - whereby people are taken on as "temporary property guards" and live in office buildings/development properties. This may be a last resort, but your pets would have to be somewhere else, I'm sure.

    Best of luck

I found these links for Property Guardians, it may be of interest to someone ...

I have no links with or knowledge of anything to do with this, just trying to help.

Are you thinking of Ad Hoc? They do similar stuff, Google for "ad hoc property" (I can't post links as a new user, you see!)

    Thanks
