Oh well back to the drawing board! To be honest she is the one who keeps me going when being a carer just ceases to be fun. However when she moves to Germany we will keep in touch just as me and my Mum do, tho maybe we won't ring each other when theres a funny commercial on tv like my ma does. Im hoping theres going to be a bit of a thaw tonight as we are at the midwife tomorrow and I need Hubby in his wheelchair.

  • Hi all

Well we had more snow fall last night and the roads are deadly - thankfully little man's school is still open so he's gone so he's not bored basically so I am at home at the minute raiding cupboards/freezer etc to see what we've got in so if I can help it I really don't want to risk getting the bus in this weather either in the event that I cant get home because of a snow/landslide on the main road or the snow starts and they stop the buses because otherwise its a 40 minute walk in a foot worth of snow. no thank you. so I will see what I can make up of what I've got basically. Also helpful as I'm not paid until next week so want to try and empty the freezer down a bit.

Have put in a small tesco order of £20 for things like cereal/juice/bread/milk etc so that's coming on Friday which was the nearest available slot.

Also had to research my turtles as wilkinsons had no terrapin food in so needed to find an alternative to feed them so found out they can eat lettuce so been and brought a fresh one from the coop - but the veg supply is low in the shop already so might run over and get a bag of jacket potatoes in a bit. Got bread and milk earlier though when I went over.

Madartha - hope you have managed to get some sort of sweetie supply in now.

    Hows everyone else doing?

Hi SK. We're pretty snowed in here too. Hubby works for the council and there was no way he was going to be able to get into work, but he's walked down to the local library and reported for work there which means he doesn't have to take the day of out of his leave. Library shuts at 1pm today, so he'll only be working for a half day with a full days pay. :)

Told him to bring back cat crunchies as we forgot to get some at the weekend. We've got plenty of tinned cat food, but one of the cats prefers the crunchies.

Hoping that the weight of the snow doesn't bring down the power lines. The trees are bowing under all the weight and our power line goes through a couple of trees. We had a power cut last night, but luckily it was only for a second or two. Had to re-set the heating and bedside clocks though.

DS1 is supposed to be signing on today, but it looks like there aren't any buses and DS2 was supposed to be at a school in Llanishen on his work placement for his NVQ, but the school's closed.

Still, it looks breathtakingly beautiful outside and we've got plenty of food and drink. I'm even tempted to wrap up and go and build a snowman in the bottom field. :D
  • Giger - from what I remember your just down the road from me in Bridgend. Boyfriend works out the back industrial estates and he had a few issues getting over there from what I gathered this morning. My mum is meant to be coming up from St Athan at some point tomorrow so im hoping she'll be able to get here ok.

Luckily I have a shop next door so I've got dog food at the ready and to be honest he can pretty much have what we are having bar the nasties that upsets his tummy but the terrapins were a bit of fun. will feed them a little in a minute actually whilst I think of it.

Luckily we have had no trees down or power cuts at the minute but don't think it will be any fun if they do start - none of our side roads are gritted or cleared so unless people live on a main road they are pretty much stuck which is no fun for them - also my mother in law lives on a steep hill so she is pretty much trapped in her cul de sac now along with teh rest of the street.

Let me know if you need anything mind cos boyfriend drives a big truck so the snow isn't affecting him too badly and like I said he's near to you.

Thanks SK. :) You're right, I live about 5 miles from Bridgend, Pencoed's the nearest village a couple of miles away.

If your mum can get on the motorway, she should be ok as that's pretty clear (I can see it from my house) but it's the side roads and lanes that are the problem, especially now that they're only gritting the main roads. We live on a hill, along a one track lane and the grit bin nearby hasn't been refilled so the lane is thick with snow, hence why hubby walked down to Pencoed this morning. Lol, he's going to be knackered walking back up!

Hi sammykaye - I seem to remember one of our terrapins used to eat cheese too, not sure whether it was recommended or just he decided to eat it.

Its been snowing here on and off all day, its not sticking much yet at least not on rodas etc but footpaths are still inches deep in snow/ice from last time so its gaining there.
Kids all been in school this week, and its the first time since Sept that all four have actually gone to school (had bad few weeks before Christmas with the 5YO and ended up having to stay all day with him), was really looking forward to tomorrow when OH goes to work cos it would be my first morning in peace, but my 11YO been sent home sick again so thats that idea gone again. :)

Power definitely playing up here too and its playing havoc wth the computer, have been and bought a surge protected socket to run computer and phones thru just in case.

Bought my 3YO and myself new pink furry bootee slippers the other day and I am so happy with them £3 each and my feet are now actually warm.

No rubbish collections this week again here means we last had bins emptied 18th Dec, our back yard area is so full of rubbish I cant see the gate any more. Thats after my dad and friend took bags away regularly over Christmas and took all my recycling on several days too. A neighbourhood collection point has been set up for Friday but as OH is working I cant get it there. Have called council and complained that they have agreed that as its been so long and I cannot get it to them they will include me ina van collection and take away my bags. Thank goodness.

How are you getting on with things like rubbish collections Mardartha, you are obviously much worse affected by the weather than we are?

The bucket lorry is coming to the bottom of the village and the husband & neighbour's husband are hauling the bins down there and back again :) We all cleared our street with shovels, nobody from the council has yet come up ! and they were clearing the farm road today with 2 tractors because the feed lorry couldnt get up. But its not really thawing much, more just turning to ice. I wouldn't mind a month in Bermuda, actually..
