It is tough NOW. So how are we coping

Do you not have friends or family that you could stay with? It might be a tight squeeze but it would help them with bills etc. How many are you looking to re-home? If you have pets there are charities that will foster them out for you until you are settled in a new home or could friends take them on for you?
We have a friend that we can bunk in with short term but this is only as a last resort (she was very clear about that), there are six of us in total and a variety of pets, if needs be I can probably get my mum to take a couple of the pets and some friends take others short term, it just seems awful that having lived and paid our way for the last ten years theres no real help available,
I am pinning my hopes really on our landlord finding us somewhere else, even if its only for six months, if its a short term thing they will charge us less rent which would enable me to save towards a deposit.0 -
Fingers crossed then that the landlords have an alternative. Is there a possibility you could move out of the area to somewhere more affordable or with council house vacancies? I know it would be horrid but you would be all together.
The no help is what got me, there never seems to be support for those who have worked hard for years. At least on here there is a network of emotional support.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
In the meantime have you looked at some of the challenges on here to help you build up a deposit/buffer?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Things just got a whole lot worse for us, we have been told by our landlord that we have eight weeks to leave as they want to use the property. Having been to our local council to request help with housing we were given an appointment to see the relevant dept at the end of Aug, so effectively we are on our own, looking at private rents they are double our current rent and many will not allow pets or kids.
I feel like all the doors closed in my face today and I do not know what to do now.
Have they served you with the relevant legal papers?
If they have, then the council must see you now to arrange emergency accomadation, especially if you have children. If they dont, then contact Social Services and they may help you!
Dont take on anywhere private until you have seen someone at the council homeless dpt. The least they should do is offer you a list of local landlords that are of reasonable rates and they back.

I would sit tight as long as it didnt involve me in any more expense. It's a shame for the landlord but he will be ok - you might not be, on the streets!
....ooooh...Mardatha...I DO see where you are coming from here...The thing is we dont know the landlords situation...ie whether its some "huge" set-up in it for profit only...or just one little person with one little property and they rely on that property for part of a very basic level income.....'tis a difficult situation....but methinks I wont be commenting either way...as I dont know which of those set-ups it is (having thought I might be a buy-to-letter back in t'past myself...but things didnt work out that way in the end...so I can see the "other side of the coin" there....)0 -
Hi Just a quick update-
DD2 et al have been moved into my house. I had to stay in the bfs' place as the word 'tip' does not convey the true visual aspect of the situation.:o So, got a freebie meal and some sympathy.
Even after giving lots of old favourites to my friend for her car booting, having so many trips to the dump that I am first name terms with the guys there and 'hiding' as much as possible in the attic - there is still a lot of 'stuff' as DD2 calls it.
The company she worked for contacted her to say that they would pay her maternity pay - so she waited for pay day and surprise nothing went in. They kept the staff working till the shop closed and then pulled the plug on everyone. the only contact number she has is for France. So no possibility of of redress there.
I don't think she will be moving out after this, the rental market here is trying to get as much as possible out of people. However, the loss of some big employers in our area has meant that she is not alone in her predicament.
Bf is taking me away for a few days, just as DD2 is to have her baby but as this trip was planned last year and with no refunds I am banking on her being 'late'. May sound a little hard to some but we both need some space frome each other also will need my energy banks to be recharged.
So, still looking for the bright side of life[STRIKE]Fed up of being kippered by kids - new resolve - the NO word. Still at this[/STRIKE] Dam they struck again!!
Stay focused on the bigger plan - :rolleyes:0 -

Kidcat,
just want to say I can't add any advice.
I think everyone's given that already.
I just wanted to say my heart goes out to you.I can't imagine
how you must be feeling at the moment having something as
basic as your home being threatened.
Just wanted to wish you good luck and I hope you get things
sorted.0 -
Thanks for all the kind thoughts will keep you updated as we move along, we are at the point now of having to just wait, which is difficult I am not a patient person more a get out and get stuck in type so this sitting waiting is very character building,
Scaty - my thoughts are with you, theres no way I could live with my parents again now, we would end up killing each other. I truly appreciate how hard it must be.0 -

Have you thought of contacting the homeless charity Shelter? There is a freephone number on their website:http://england.shelter.org.uk/
