Hi all
I am fuming that I shall be worse off by £147 by earning my modest part time salary and NOT drinking nor smoking nor driving nor taking any flights (the real situation), then as an experiment I repeated the exercise by putting loads of booze, fags and premium flights and at the same salary I would be better off by £376.
This is really the world gone upside down and Mrs Tittlemouse's comment about the lunatics taking over the asylum has never been more apt.

I daren't look at how much worse off I am right now:eek:   I shall remain in denial for the time being, but try to be as mse as I can:o"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

People who buy loads of booze and fags are paying the government a fortune in tax.0 -
We're actually saving MORE by not buying the booze and fags in the first place though!!
I just got that NaN thing as well in the tax credits line, don't understand it.

I can't believe what is going on with the British government, it sounds entirely insane
People here in Australia may occasionally whinge about our PM, but he's a decent chap, his heart's in the right place and he isn't a few slices short of a full loaf.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I know that in REAL LIFE we are better off by not buying fags and booze, this is not the gripe I have, really - and I know that the smokers and drinkers give loads of tax money to the government (but can you count the public expense for their health?).
It is that the whole "information" system is so deviant, anyone who believes those figures would think that we are actually BETTER OFF!
I am really pi**ed off at the spin, the manipulation of information, the deception and the swindle that the government is attempting to pull on the general public all the time!
Off the soapbox and back to work now!

Can anyone actually point me in the direction of a calculator that's up to date with yesterdays information - all the ones I've seen are based on March's budget.

Although we are both on good salaries and have no dependents, no mortgage etc I find it very difficult to say that we're not worse off! We're finding it incredibly difficult to save as there's always something - MrS had a big dental bill, the car needed work doing to it etc.
And don't get me started on the government - they should be locked up!0 -
The government have all sorts of data at their disposal and they must have know what was coming 6-8 years ago. So where was the prudence in their housekeeping? It is all about power and staying in power so bring in the smoke and mirrors. Gold was sold at a pittance and there is NOTHING in the uk safety net of a money pot. Bliar and his war have drained us too
I got an e mail from smile banking today saying that the rate on current accounts will now be 0.28%. So now I am thinking `what is the point in being frugal` except it is my own self-respect. The value of cash is still going down like a stone and the only thing that is gaining in value is my full storecupboard and that is down to real prudence
Don't forget that all indications are that current reductions in tax, vat etc. will have to be paid for in 2011, after Billy Liar gets re-elected again.... so we should all take it that we have 2 years tops to sort out our finances before the tax grab inevitably starts again
I have just seen on the news that even the Governor of the Bank of England will not rule out wholesale bank nationalisation sometime in the future - and that means muggins paying for it (as usual). No wonder everyone I know is concentrating on repaying any debts and keeping any spare money under the mattress, so to speak - no-one trusts banks any moreSMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0
