    We're struggling.
I keep cutting down, but every time we get a bit extra money, something comes and gobbles it up again *sobs*
We're doing ok though. Nothing is in arrears, we have food, and a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs. Ok, so the car got written off (lol) but at least it wasn't our home, you know?
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Don't throw away food challenge started 30/10/11 £4.45 wasted.

My dps job is hanging by a thread, they have already cut the overtime pay from time 1/2 to just time and ''promised'' to pay the 1/2 time they have cut back to employees when they are back in profit  And what happens to these earnings when the company goes under?
With having our baby due in Feb i really want this money!!! Dp got turned down for 2 perfect work from home jobs on a good salary :( this doesnt help. I only have a p/t christmas job until end of Jan as then baby is due.

IF, (big if) push comes to shove, me and baby would live with mum and dad and dp would live with his dad - the only thing is - we have 3 dogs who we love to death and i dont want to give them up because of this crisis *sobs* i wonder if dps dad would mind 3 more dogs in his household??? (my mum wouldnt!) - he'd then have 5  2 king charles', 2 German Shepherds and a Dobermann  I would kiss his feet if he did :A (aslong as they were washed first lol)

Just got to try and stay positive and look on the bright side, im glad to only have my overdraft to pay and my monthly bills, im glad we own the car and the scooter outright and glad i have no store cards, credit cards or loans. I really do feel for the people whose finances are worse than ours and facing redundancies :( Its very scary.

Reusable nappies, breastfeeding and freecycle will ensure my baby is 'low cost' for as long as possible :T

Hubby now on a 4 day week, with the possibility of a 3 day week or worse looming:eek: and with only one wage coming in, things are a bit grim, but you just have to try and get on with it. There's only 2 of us at home now, but I am so used to cooking for 4, so I decided this was a great way to fill the freezer with minimum effort. I still cook for 4 and then divide the whole lot into 2 portions giving us one for dinner and one for the freezer. I also batch bake cakes and apple crumbles (apple glut this year) and freeze all the extra ones. I have been amazed at how quickly the freezer is filling up with home made goodies and at how much money we are saving on our food bill by not buying things ready-made:D

  • Just wanted to send some cyber sympathy to all those people facing/worrying about facing redundancies and other woes. You're in my thoughts.

I just took DS1 to orthodontist and we called in Woolies (the boys discovered Monopoly at the weekend and we'd actually thrown our old one out ) who had it for £15, and then at the check out the woman told me there was another 20% off everything and she said "You're not surprised, are you?". I'm pleased at getting monopoly for £12, but all I could think of was whether those women might be about to lose their jobs.

    Hang in there, everyone.

Regrettably I think they may. Dealing in Woolworth's shares was suspended this morning.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • happytails could you use some very good re-usable nappies? I have a bundle I would like to send to you as a present. I bought them when my daughters were pregnant but neither has used re-usables. Will you pm me if you would like them

It's called 'The complete book of Self-Sufficiency' by John Seymour.

Just checked on amazon and it's at £37.60  Flippin 'eck, wont be leaving it by the fire again!

Thankfully, he has a new one called 'The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency: The Classic Guide for Realists and Dreamers' for £13 on amazon.

Here is an article about the books
    http://home.clara.net/heureka/books/self-sufficiency.htm

Here also is 'how to grow buckwheat' a kind of seed to make into flour.

I must get the (cheaper) book for Christmas. I feel quite excited - sad isn't it?
  • Kitty that is just lovely of you! What a nice little community this is :T

On a sobering note, I came across this today about the possiblity of food shortages.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aC.nz4FiZpkg&refer=home

I placed an order with approved foods this morning to increase our store a bit. I also got my camping cooker and camping heater today with some butane cannisters to use should things get really bad! I do think it unlikely it will get to that stage anytime soon (I hope anyway!) but I feel better knowing that we've got the supplies we would need just in case.

I've also been stocking up with friends in mind who have their heads in the sand about the extent of the current economic crisis. I'm trying not to worry too much, but trying to stay informed so I can make good judgements about what's ahead.
