yes redundancy fears are very close to home for us... dh's work has closed... we have to wait the weekend to find out if he has a job or if he is redundant.... at least the children have enjoyed the snow! it has been a distraction(!)
I agree about the slushy snow though - I like to see pristine white untouched snow - it looks so beautiful... but once it gets trodden on/messed up/dirty/slushy... I want it gone!0 -
Yategirl - hope all's gonna be well with OH's job - bigs hugs going out to you & family:grouphug:When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Things are tough here, we came back from holiday to find out hubby had been made redundant, and they have not given him any notice or pay owing. He has a contract that states 2 mths must be given so had to take them to court, they have backed down, but wont pay court costs so it goes on.
Holiday needs to be paid for, need four new tyres at the cost of £500
Two tax discs and a £300 insurance excess from a crash
So thats not very funny!
DH has applied for loads of jobs, and has been offered one, which is not ideal by ay stretch of the imagination, but needs must.:rolleyes:Pawpurrs x0 -
The north of Scotland had a severe weather warning of lots of snow, but it seems to have fallen on us instead. On top of all the rest . One good thing about winter here is that the snow stays for ages and it stays clean cos there's hardly anybody up here lol
I am so glad I found this forum, I don't have a huge store in like some do but I have more in than I used to and that has come in handy in this bad spell, its a long way to the nearest shop for me. I always had an emergency stock but now it's better
The semi-wild ginger cat who lives in my stick box has hardly come out of the box for a week, & he is having waitress service delivered to his box.0 -

Hi all,
Have read some of the posts here, but too many to read all of them.
In the space of the last three days both myself and my husband have been given redundancy notices. I am really scared now.
I thought I had redundancy cover on a policy I had been paying into for 6 years but on checking it only covers inability to work through illness or injury (Income protection). I could kick myself for not realising this.
Like others, I don't know how we are going to cope, in fact, I don't know where to start! A small saving grace is that we don't have loads of debts, other than the Mortgage.
so sorry to hear of everyone else who is facing te same - hope things work out for you all."Carpe Diem"
MFW - Starting mortgage April 2010 - 120,000
MFW - restart Nov 2013 - £70207.88 & £14086.49
Current balance - £62459.49 & £10380.19

julliff - that's terrible news. I feel so sorry for you. Is there any chance you might have been missold this policy and have a claim for compensation. Do check any written correspondence you may still have with the provider to see if you had mentioned redundancy cover. Check out the Redundancy thread on this site. There might be some useful advice for you there. Meanwhile, sit down with your husband and make a list of all your outgoings and expenditures, even the small ones which normally might get overlooked and see if there is anything that can be trimmed. If you're both going to be at home all day, the first additional cost you may incur is additional heating expenses, so wrap up warm and check out the gas and electricity threads on reducing your fuel expenditure. Hope something crops up for you soon.0

(((hugs))) to everyone facing redundancies at the moment, hope everything works out for you all.
We have had hardly any snow here,I am feeling a bit disappointed  although when people have to try and get to work in it,it is perhaps not so good.I haven't needed to go out much anyway because my freezer and cupboards are filled to bursting point.
At least all the children off school have been enjoying the snow anyway.0
