I've got a little Lakeland mincer with a sausage attachment and use that to make our sausages but it always takes 2 of us! I turn the handle, my OH is in charge of making the links, we just do it very slowly and he twists each link as they're being stuffed. Admittedly they're not always the same size but I think that just makes them look more homemade!

Oh my goodness, I was only just posting on this thread about eating every variation of 'SPAM' during a previous recession and I 've just seen an advert for the original 'SPAM' Fritter:eek: Is there a hidden message there somewhere?

eliza that is so peculiar! OH came back from the Co-op with a tin of Spam, I asked him what on earth he was doing with it and he said he had been dreaming of spam fritters and now had a craving for them. So he cook Spam fritters and I must admit I wasn't looking forward to trying them but it was suprisingly good!

nannaC - hope you don't mind, but I posted your recipe for cheese and onion soup on the daily thread, after someone had asked for it! Seems like several people have now tried it and all love it, so thanks again from them and me!

Ohhhhhhhhhh thank you mummysaver, I don't mind at all have just told grumpy, who says now that I'm a world famous all over OS land does that mean I will be too big headed to make him his Fav cheese/onion soup for dinner tommorrow.
  • Hi folks, hope everyone's wrapped up nice n warm with no falls due to ice. Snow has nearly gone today, been nice n sunny but cold. Weather is forecast to be bad again overnight/tomorrow so will be fun getting into work again. Gritters have done the roads but no-one does the pavements - it's been like a skating rink round here!

When I mentioned schools not closing years ago - I forgot that people have further to travel these days. Our teachers probably lived round the corner so didn't have far to go.

Hope you are all stocked up like good MSE's, - apparently one supermarket ran out of bread as people have been panic buying - no doubt due to the newsreaders with their doom & gloom.
I'm like lilac_lady, only put teletext headlines on, then read what I want, gave up buying newspapers years ago.

Keep warm n well everyone, don't go out unless you have to til this is over.
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

Evening all, back to work as normal today and the trains even ran on time - there AND back!
I know that the snow has caused problems for some people, and unfortunately there are the inevitable car accidents, falls etc which of course is awful...but I've gotta say - I love it! :D I feel quite sad that it's all been melting today, and I'm hoping for more this weekend so I can make a snowman! What I've loved about the past couple of days is that it's brought people together. I met two neighbours that I haven't spoken to before - they were out de-icing their car as I was out and about. I've had some lovely chats with old ladies in the co-op etc. I've shared a laugh with the delivery van driver who couldn't make it up my road in the morning but managed to come back round in the afternoon to deliver my parcel. Back at work today, everyone's sharing stories of the snow, who had the worst journey to work(!), who's been making snowmen, etc. Snow brings with it such a sense of nostalgia and childishness - it's great! So nice that people have something to talk about other than the economic doom and gloom.

Even the blackest snow clouds have silver linings!

  • Evening all. I'm a bit of a lurker here but thought I would just chip in with my 2 pennies worth re the school closures. I am a teacher, yesterday our school was shut, the decision was made by the head early in the morning due to heavy snow on the ground and the number of teachers living in remote areas not being able to get in. Today we opened, but the playground was like an ice rink, so all children had to stay in all day....the legacy of 'Had an accident thats not your fault' commercials hange heavy now in all sectors. many parents were complaining that we shouldn't be open and the site was unsafe. Other parents were complaining about the next door infant school being shut due to an icy playground. I think the saying goes...you can't please all the people all of the time.

However..the saddest part of the day was at least 5 children I spoke to through the course of the day were not allowed out to play by their parents yesterday, when the school was closed, as it was too 'dangerous'. Sad times. I am also a parent and me and my DS had an amazing day yesterday building snowmen, walking the dog etc etc. Please don't always blame the teachers for the 'health and safety' gone mad, there are plenty of parents out there too who are either too idle or too scared to take their children out to play in the snow.
