Hi I have been a long time lurker to this thread and must thank you all for your ideas and inspiration, i love it!
On the subject of sugar i try to buy mine from B&M where it is only 69p, I usually buy a couple of bags at a time at that price.
I too have thought Aldi have gone a bit expensive on some of their items.
Hi lellyo -welcome to the thread. Is the sugar, Castor Sugar? If it is, that's a great price! I must admit I had to re-check my receipts to check I had the prices right and yes MrL 89p for 1kg and in MrS £1.38 for 1kg, a massive difference of 49p:eek:
kittie -Great minds think alike. Torches have be placed strategically, candles and matches have been put together and are ready for lighting. Lentils are soaking to make big pots of soup and the cupboards are stocked. I was talking to a local farmer yesterday and he kept saying 'You just don't know what's coming' and I think that about sums it up. This could be a very bad week but equally it may just all blow over quickly like the snow storms (hopefully).
DH made me smile because on his list of important jobs to do today was, brush the dogs. Now I can't quite see how that would have any effect on either the economic storms or the snow storms, but it certainly had an effect on my carpets. I think I could knit several jumpers from our GSD:rotfl: her hair gets everywhere.
Keep your chins up everyone, it may be bad but it could be worse.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Goodness I have really noticed the steep rise in prices lately. I was shocked - really shocked. |Tomato sauce has about trebled since I last bought it (not often!) and Jacobs crackers were 84p for the larger pack in S.Field (got them later in MrM for 20p cheaper). Such a variance in prices.
Ok, moan over - this is such an interesting thread!

Hi elizabunny
No, sugar is normal granulated. Havn't seen caster sugar in B&M,yet, but have bought demerera there, think that was 49p if i remember rightly.0 -
I suspect we could see the price of vegetables and other things rocket this week if heavy snows disrupt the transport system. Stocking up on such perishables early might be a good idea.0

I spent a lot of yesterday reading Nella Last's War and realised that no matter what, people do manage to survive. The most important thing, still true now, is a positive, cheerful attitude (even if secretly you are worried sick, like Nella). I love her philosophy of 'take each day as it comes and do the best I can with it'.
Charis -I am loving reading this. I started about a week ago and now I'm around half way through. When I go to bed at night I thank God that at least we're not running for the 'Anderson Shelters' or waking up to find the plaster hanging off the walls and the windows blown out -I cannot even begin to imagine what this was like. To have that noise over your head night after night, to live each day with all that uncertainty and fear. Yet as you so rightly say, people do survive and keeping positive is important.
I'm sure many of you have already read this book, but I can recommend it if you haven't. It certainly made me re-evaluate my situation.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

We've had two mini (less than 5 second) power cuts today and I was really really hoping for a longer one so that we could sit in front of the fire, light some candles and have a dry run of the 'what if's'.
Hmmmm, something tells me I'm taking this whole OS thing too far :rotfl:0 -
My online friend in Maine is falling about laughing at us and our headlines. They very often get 2ft of snow at a time and he says they just "get on with it " !0
