Hi Reverbe - can't believe the situation you are in (know it's not really my business but can't help offering advice) I was out of work for a little over 4 1/2 months earlier this year - went to Citizens Advice as I'd not been out of work for long time - upshot was - entitled to income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit, all of which I received - and I had more savings in the bank than £6000 - well not a lot more, only a little. You really need to get in touch with them or another advice bureau - there is a website online called entitledto.co.uk which will calculate the benefits you will be able to claim- all you have to do is enter your fnancial details - Good Luck , and you deserve better than the way you have to live at the moment. (no offence meant)When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

I cant pay my overdraft with a shopping voucher can i. OH bought me the WII out of his Xmas bonus as it is the last thing we will ever be able to buy that is 'luxury' and its something we can do together that only costs the electric it will use and the whole family can play it when we've nothing to do (which i can see being quite often when you have no money to go out and spend).

Hi everyone, I noticed that over on the house prices, recession, economy board there is a thread about stock piling food.
I've had a bit of an idea over christmas. My mum is giving me a few shelved units, so I'm going to put that in the spare room for my stock pile, along with the freezer from my sister. My kitchen space is very limited.
I didnt think I bought as much xmas food this year, but there are still heaps left.0 -
I've always kept a good store cupboard, living in the boon docks and no car makes life complicated - its a relief to not have to worry about running out of food if I cant get to the shops, and when we get power cuts its reassuring to know where the candles and torches are (with plenty of batteries and matches in store too of course!);)
The thread you mention is quite funny, but I'm a bit mystified to see one poster finds it amusing to keep first aid stuff in the house? Is it just me or does anyone else keep first aid stuff?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi Rosieben, I keep first aid stuff too. I also keep a supply of cough mixtures, vic etc. Which I have to say has came in handy this winter, as everyone in my family has had some type of cold etc.
There is nothing worse than being unwell overnight or at the weekend when you can't get to a shop. I live in a wee village and my shopping options here are also limited x0 -
I keep first aid stuff in the house and a small kit in the car too. My DS took a large first aid kit with him when he was backpacking in Oz/NZ/Japan.
Mind you, he was probably not a typical young traveler because he got so fed up with poorly equiped hostlels that he bought himself a spud peeler and a masher and carted them around with him!Murphy was an optimist!!!0 -

I thought everyone had a first aid kit in the house, don't they? And in the car too if they've got one. Thanks rosieben, that's just given me an idea of what to buy my 17 y/o DGD when she passes her test

it is os to keep a good first aid kit in the house
plus I have topped mine up with flu meds and cough meds. They will all keep in a cool place
I had a very rough cold a few weeks ago and it was utter bliss not having to go to the shops
If the flu really did a countrywide sweep then supplies will be disrupted anyway0 -
