    Thanks Caterina,

We will hopefully pull through, got our little girl to think about.

Trying to find out how we go about cancelling Sky and Tiscali Internet, We are bound by contracts til May and Sept and both our parents have sky and internet so no need to transfer/keep it. I have a feeling the companies will want the months we have left paying up front which would be costly! What do you think?

How long will the Royal mail redirection thing take to come into place? Dont want to leave this address before they are redirecting all my mail.

Argh, i feel stressed and unorganised. Not even got any christmas spirit this year - no tree, nothing :(

Sky and Tiscali -- they'll either want the months you've not used, or if they're particularly nasty (I know some companies do it - including T-mobile on their 'dongle' b/band) they charge a termination fee which is the outstanding period and then some !!

How long does it take to set up a Redirection online? (from the Royal Mail website)
The application process typically takes around five minutes to complete online. Once you have submitted your application, please allow up to five working days for the Redirection to come into effect.

    Sarah,

If I were you I would ring your companies directly and explain (in brief) what the situation is, sometimes the customer services people are HUMAN and will do goodwill things - as opposite to the famous "Computer says no" way of operating - nothing ventured nothing gained, just say that once you will have your home together back you will certainly remain customers.

They might not have in their power to forfeit the whole amount, but you might try to negotiate a lower payment for services you are not going to use.

Good luck, I know it is really stressful, especially given that it is Christmas, you are expecting, all these things do not make it any easier. If necessary ask a very assertive friend to help.

Let us know how it goes!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Thanks cw18 and caterina. We currently pay £36 a month for sky with movies and extras so i was thinking of getting the most basic package and just paying that monthly or something until September as it will cost about £325 for the months up until September on the package we currently have.

Tiscali we will owe about £80 to if we have to pay the months left (until may). :(

Money is being spent already :((

Good job ive got everything sorted for the little one, incase she arrives early due to all this stress! Ive got family helping us out storing our appliances so i dont need to pay to rent somewhere for those. My uncle has a van we might be able to borrow when we move so thats good. Got to think of the positive things otherwise i will end up in a puddle of tears :(

Thanks for all the help guys, ill need it!!!

  • At the very least the TV & BB people may let you scale down to the basic packages for the remainder of the contract Sarah. I really do so hope that things go well for you - it must have been a traumatic decision at best but if the interior of the house is as bad as you say undoubtedly the right one. I cross my fingers that you manage to sort out the dogs - I assume that there aren't any other friends or relatives who would be prepared to look after them until the pair of you can make a home together again?

Remember to inform your Doctors - an often forgotten one that. Also you must change your driving license details - I seem to recall it's now an offence not to do so - and you might well be able to get points on your license if you get caught without having done it. Best of luck to you on sorting everything out.

I'm very glad that we got our electricity bills etc under control a while back now - as things have gradually got tighter the energy monitoring we did has come into its own as I can be certain that the current DD will more than cover the power we're using - even this week where I've been ill so have been using lighting etc more than normal I've not had to worry about that side of things. The business with prices going up in the supermarkets is ridiculous - there really is no excuse for the 50% or thereabouts increases on someof the basics in the last week - I shall be looking at Asda for Bread flour tomorrow, and calling in to Lidl for chopped tomatoes (theirs are usually as nice, if not nicer, than Tesco ones anyhow). I certainly don't intend to stand by and bow to Tesco's silly demands.

    Thanks Essexhebridean :o

Im determined to have a lovely stress free xmas day and boxing day no matter what. Even though i am doing the lifts those days seeing as i cant touch an alcoholic drink lol

Anyone know anything about ISAs? I used to have the one where you can withdraw whenever you want but i hear the one that you can only withdraw on closure has a higher interest rate? I want the one where you can withdraw whenever but dp wants one with the highest interest rate. We are with Halifax at the moment but not sure if we should open one with them?

Also, (sorry for all the questions) when i finish using my washing machine and i want to unplug it and store it at my nans for a while is there anything i need to do, to ensure all water is out etc as its only a yr old and i want it to work again  - not had to faff like this before!

    Just had a thought.....

Are both sets of parents still in their minimum contracts (especially the Sky one)?

If not, could one of them cancel theirs, and then transfer yours to their address. Effectively that would then mean you don't have to cancel yours

Suppose if there contract was ending soon we might be able to arrange something, but when i leave and take my sky with me they will need to re- register wont they?

My mum has had sky for about 10yrs im sure now lol but it is just the basic package at the moment - will see what she says.

Sorry to hear everything is so bad for you - big hugs.

My dh has a removal & storage business and we always store washing machines, fridges, freezers & dryers with the doors taped open. If you don't mould starts to grow very rapidly  and as you say its only a year old. Just make sure that the taped open door won't be forced by people squeezing past or anything. We've stored things for well over a year both for ourselves & customers and all things needed were a hot wash with powder but no clothes when they were back in situ. For the fridge/freezer I'd reccommend washing the inside down with a bleach solution before storing it with the doors taped open as it helps inhibit the growth of mould etc.

Good luck I'll keep you in my thoughts xx
