The key point is that it should be on for a shorter amount of time, and you will notice a speed improvement.
It should cure this problem "cant do much than run one window at once...", as that sounds like a RAM to disk/swapping to page file problem.
It will always flash when you load something, and will flash briefly when you browse the internet, as everything you see on screen is written to your hard disk internet cache..
There is some more info on page files here: (It is for NT4, but the principle still applies to XP)

You have a nice new year too (and a happy birthday), thanks..
Incidentally, rogue software can drag the performance of your PC down, so if the ram upgrade doesn't work, I'll try and address that..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
thanks albertross, the piece has been dispatched so they are on the ball this company, thankyou so much for your help and i will keep you posted in the new year
happy new year0 -
albertross, it came today (special post). right i tryed to fit it and the chip space below the one that has a chip in and the chip space seems to be too small, so i removed the one that was already in there and that doeent seem to fit on the bottom one either....so do i just take the one out that is in there and put the new one in?
thanks0 -
no little point in just fitting the new one into the old as it will still only be 256 shared memory
Looking at the pictures one fits one way and the other one the other way
Align the keyed (notched) edge of the board with the keyed area in the expansion slot. Insert the board into the slot at a 45-degree angle until it is seated
Are the two memory modules exactly the same size when placed side by side and notches correspond to notches on each modular2008 Wins Jan Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey: The Definitive Edition on HD DVD £12.98, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher,£500 love2shop voucher, £10 amazon voucher, dvd and chocolate £8.12, Portable dvd player + town called eureka boxset £126Total £687.100 -
