oh sorry missed that lol, so if i buy the 256mb on the critical site and use you 'how to put it in thing' i should be ok
one thing though, can i shout for help if i need any and tell you if it went ok if i do it
also once it is in how can tell it is 'working' lol0 -
sorry, just seen this now, and a guess is (have not read all the thread) but you are only getting 192 from 256 installed. It could possibly be a laptop with an intergrated graphics card that uses system memory to power itself. some of them do enable you to reduce the amount it uses from 8mb to 64mb but im not sure on each specific.
In regards to RAM, 128 is pointless, buy at least 256 or 512MB stick and your sorted. Do you have DDR/SDRAM?0 -
albertross i have just brought the 256mb stick and with p&p and vat it was £25.13, so not too bad (thanks for all your help, you are a star
)
mwm whats ddr/sdram?0 -
you've just edited your post hehe.. 256 extra is better than 128 extra, and it's only £5 more.
Of course you can come back if you need further help, I'd like to know if it worked - nothing worse than spending all this time posting and not finding out what happened in the end!
It should just run a lot faster, and the memory from winver should report 448MB..
If your hard disk light is continually on, that is an indication that your hard disk is being used instead of RAM (have a look), and that is why it is slow. After you upgrade, the HD light should only come on when you load a program, and intermittently in between..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
two different types of ram newer ones use DDR/DDR2 and older uses SDRAM. (both are SODIMM) sorry about the unnessary info.
Albertross has selected the correct memory for your laptop so dont worry and it should all be fine.0 -
You don't mess about do you, that was quick..
I hope it works (and apologise in advance if it doesn't), and thanks to moneywasting for checking - I was going to double check that I'd specified the right stuff, all these posts were rushed!Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
lol, sorry i edited it when i looked at your earlyer posts, i have definatly ordered a 256mb one
thanks
i will tell you what happened, this has been the best hour i have spent on this site i thinki will put a post up for you when i get and install it
ok thanks
where is the hard disk light, is that the thing that flashes when i click on a program (located in front of my mouse)?0 -
lol no
albertross dont worry if it doesnt work, its cheaper than buying a new pc before trying a £25 item that will do the same job0 -
Provided that you have got the right one, it should make a huge difference - I will still feel guilty if it doesn't, £25 is £25..
The HD light usually has a cyclinder icon (like a tin of baked beans) next to it, but as I said, I don't know your model, so it may be different..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
ah well, we will soon find out
yes, that light is on (constantly) when i open a new program and is on when i refresh/load a new page on the internet but it is usually flashing all the time while i am using the lappy...will it change when this thing is in?0
