it can be treated as anything you want - a lot of people treat it as a glorified chatroom. some people treat it as a genuine business opportunity - it really is open to whatever interpretation you want - it's just not a game.

if you think that people form relationships with avatars then you don't quite get it - i know that sounds rude, and it's not meant to be, but if you're getting to know someone on second life you're getting to know the person. the avatar is just the packaging. how that person chooses to portray themselves, or how honest they choose to be about themselves is entirely up to them.

but then the same can be said for any one of the hundreds of internet chatrooms available online today.

The whole problem is internet ''relationships' is they can get very intense and emotional , we have seen posts this week concerning the couple getting divorced over it .
People online arent always who you think they are ,in fact they normally appear perfect lol ...........its very easy to form emotional attachment , when in fact you are only providing some ( probable) freak with a cheap !!!! ...........would you like to be used that way?

i have been used that way, but it's unfortunately something that comes with using a chatroom.

there are men - and women - who will use chatrooms dishonestly and portray themselves as something they aren't, and will also use them as an opportunity to cheat on their wives/husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends. for me personally that says more about them as a person rather than the whole concept of online chatting.

if two single people meet online and form a relationship that may or may not move into the real world then I would say good luck to them.

i've met many decent people online, and also in second life. people with many different reasons for doing what they do and they most certainly are not "freaks".

but then as much as people being dishonest online is part and parcel of the whole idea of online chatting, by the same token, people sitting in judgment and looking down their nose at it while declaring it "sad" is just as much part of it as well.
