Thank goodness, don't think bolognese for breakfast would have gone down too well...

Hi, I have quite a bit of defrosted quorn (delay in getting it home  ) Is it safe to refreeze without cooking it?
    Thanks
    Carmen x
  • It says on the pack not to do it but rules are there to be broken, no? I'm making a large chilli with beef and quorn mixed and will be freezing it unless someone believes the pack and tells me it will kill me.

    Cheers

On the topic of Quorn, anyone got any tips re cheaper meat free alternatives with similar nutrition?

    And that'll be cheers again

I do this all the time, re-freezing cottage pies and leftover chilli and I'm still alive! I think the packet advises against doing it because the texture degrades a little with repeated freezing.

once you have cooked the previously frozen product you can refreeze.
eg defrost chicken, make a stewand have some left.this can be frozen as you have killed the bacteria in cooking

I've never had any problems freezing it again once it's cooked.

For a cheaper alternative try Adsa's own veggie mince, £1.50 for a bag the same size as the quorn, but you need less of it cos it soaks up more liquid. If you can bear the taste, Holland and Barrett do a bit bag of flavoured soya mince, very cheap but not to everyone's liking.
  • I looked at morrissons non-meat mince and it had twice as many cals and about 5 times as much fat. Not sure what it was made of.

  • Slightly different subject: has anyone played around with meat/quorn combo (in a purely culinary sense) and can tell me at what sort of ratio you start to feel like a vegetarian and it tastes rank?

    Quorn doesn't taste rank! Ever!
