Can you refreeze cooked Quorn?

Options
Hi everyone,

I cooked a few batches of Quorn chilli (from frozen Quorn) pre Christmas and thawed one out to eat tonight/tomorrow. However, everyone seems to be too "stuffed" to eat a proper meal later and will probably be eating out tomorrow, so just wondered if I could put this back in the freezer safely later on??

Any advice most welcome,

Cheers,
Mimi x

    Yes Mimi
It's safe to freeze something that you have cooked. This isn't re-freezing! :)

Not too sure about this.If its been frozen and then thawed surely its not safe to re-freeze it again?

Reading the OP post carefully she has thawed out a chilli she made pre Christmas, I wouldn't refeeze in this circumstance. There isn't a problem freezing a dish made from thawed meat or quorn just not the refreezing of a pre frozen dish, hope that's clear as I am on my second glass of wine.

    I re-read it too and *I* haven't been drinking, but I'm sure you are correct--I think. :p
The op should post again and make it clear if she's going to re-freeze something she previously froze. As long as it hasn't thawed, you can put it back in the freezer Mimi.
    I think I'm confused now! :p

Now I'm confused! As stated above, I cooked the Quorn from frozen just before Christmas to make a chilli. I put it in the freezer and defrosted it two days ago to eat tonight, which we're not now going to do. Am I safe therefore refreezing it until a later date?

I'm a little concerned due to Quorn having a mushroom base and the probability of mould ...

No! You cannot freeze this again as it has been thawed. In fact, mushroom or not, you can't re-freeze it.
Often you can pick up great bargains in the supermarkets if they have thawed something but they always say that it cannot be frozen as it was previously frozen.
I hope this is clear now! :)
  • Raw frozen quorn can be cooked and then frozen. But, as with anything else, once it's cooked and frozen, it shouldn't be refrozen once defrosted.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

QUORN! eugh! It is a type of fungus and is grown on egg protein, on eggs which I doubt very much are free range.
    Rant over...
I personally would have re-frozen it its not meat after all, but thats IMHO and not to be taken as hard fact ;)
See it as a learning experience and cook less/freeze more in future:)

  • I have frozen cooked quorn lots of times and have never had a problem with it. To be honest it had never even crossed my mind that it might not be suggested :rotfl: I can't see what would be wrong with it anyway!
