I have tonight finally got my tesco account to work and have ordered my card reader.
What card does this read?: do they send you one or do you use your club card or something. They don't make it very clear.
In the meantime how do I withdraw my money; not that I want to at the moment but its nice to know and they should make this more clear.
Thanks for helping.

http://www.tescofinance.com/personal/finance/savings/savingsaccounts/terms-and-conditions.html'Card' means an Instant Access Savings Account Card. The Card
- As a Customer, where the Account allows, you may receive a Card. Please remember that all Cards belong to us - and, if requested, you must immediately return them to our agents or us. At the end of the Agreement, please cut your Card(s) in two across the black strip. Also, remember that you are still liable for your Card use between the time we ask for the Card(s) and the time we get it back.
- You must make sure that:
- All Cards are signed on receipt and always kept secure.
- You memorise your PIN and then immediately destroy the notification slip.
- You do not tell anyone else your PIN and do not write it or record it at all. You can choose your own PIN. You should choose it carefully.

Their customer service accepted today that they if they had worked a lot harder they couldn't have made the process any more customer unfriendly... Deliberate if you ask me. If it wasn't deliberate, here is my advice Tesco: a) Sack your IT director.Sack your IT department 'cos they are moonlighting at Kaupthing Edge.....

I came within a gnat's of closing this account due to the fuss involved in getting it up and running (almost thought I would have to provide them a stool sample at one stage
)
Not only is the card process incredibly long-winded (card in post, then PIN, then card reader much later if you are lucky), but for some reason the card is a totally plain affair which has no writing on it, only a number and your name - not even the Tesco badge. So don't go forgetting what it's for...
Fortunately the reader, which will I'm sure be with me some time this year I hope, wasn't required as I have a Nationwide card reader which must be an identical unit as it does the job.0 -
I too opened a Tesco Internet Saver account requiring me to set up a customer number, a security number, a password and then wait for a registration number. It took a long time but I thought in these days security is important so after many weeks I finally managed to access my secure account only to find that I now can't withdraw my money without a card-reader which I have to apply for and may take anothe 2/3 weeks to arrive. Surprise suprise I don't need a card reader to put money in, just take it out. If this is the best Tesco can do then I think all my money is going to the Coventry BS who set up an online account with all the right security in a fraction of the time it's taken Tesco. It doesn't give me much confidence in their future service.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

You have just answered the next question I was going to ask. To have an instant access account and not be able to access it somehow, doesn't seem right to me.
When you order the card reader does the card get order automatically, I only ask because tescos does things that no other bank does and i would not like to wait a further few weeks because I had to order that separately.
Thanks for all your help.0 -

YB - I had trouble whilst waiting a very long time for my card reader (detailed in another thread) and I was offered the opportunity to make a withdrawal by phone but only after being told "This is an internet only account and phone transactions are not allowed, but in this instance you can make one transaction by phone".
On their website they state:
Withdrawing Money
You can withdraw your money at any time. This will have to be transferred to a nominated account.
Withdrawals can only be requested by using the Online Service.
I believe withdrawals can be made to the nominated account without the card reader (haven't done one of those) but if you want to send money to another account you have to "add a payee" and that's when the card reader comes into play.0
