HELP..Recieving Premium Texts

Hi
I hope someone can help me, im in a complete mess at the moment.
I have been receiving texts from 86000 for the last month and half, just got my phone bill through and for each one i have received i've been charged £1.24. I phoned up O2 and they have said there is nothing they can do. I never signed up to anything and cannot afford to pay the extra £20 that it has cost me or the extra VAT. Can someone help and give any advice on what i should do?

Text STOP to 86000 and that should stop them

Indeed, the network gets a cut. Most networks have dept to deal with issues like this, kick up a fuss, ask to talk to a team leader and they should get it sorted for you...
  • I think texting STOP ALL would be a good idea instead of STOP if you are getting texts for different things. Also, you should try contacting the contacts listed above first - i had unsolicited texts and was sent a cheque for the amount (about £3.00) though i think it was a different company to the one's here.
  • @Unorganised
you should contact o2 and ask them for the contact details of the company they are billing for.
it looks like Monstermob/zed/Info Download may be using a data list of phone numbers to rip people off.

The following cases were heard at a meeting of the PhonepayPlus Tribunal on 6 November 2008. The full adjudications will be published on the PhonepayPlus adjudication database in due course.

    Service Provider..........................mBlox Limited
    Information Provider..................Info-Download Limited

The consumer complaints related to the receipt of unsolicited messages and lack of awareness of the subscription element and cost of the service.

The Tribunal considered the case to be serious, issued a formal reprimand and imposed a fine of £40,000.
  • Thank you all so much for the help. I will be sending an email to O2 as then i will have a copy of all correspondence, I am hoping to get this sorted within the week.

If they're any good they will be able to sort it. It may take longer than a week though. They have to go back through your call records and verify that you didn't send a text to start things off (ok, there are other ways to start these, but they can't check those).

We had a case where I work and it turned out the guy had given his phone to 3 of his mates who thought it would be really funny to send texts to as many of those services as they could find !! (needless to say they're now his exfriends).
  • Hi- I also am subject to unsolicited premium texts which add about £13 to my monthly direct debit. I cancelled my contract 2 months in advance so would not have to continue paying for these but would honour the direct debit for phone calls made outside the agreement. I have just been billed for £35 for about 15 texts and we have not even had the phone on for 2 months! I have photocopied all the biils and am sending to 3 who have been totally unhelpful so far and will copy the ombudsman in. Phone providers make a profit out of these texts. it is an abuse of trust and is against The Code of Practice.
  • Thank you all.
I am trying to compile the email now but as i have never complained about anything i really don't know what to write. Why i was hoping that it could be sorted in a week is that im going into hospital then to have my first child and don't want to just forget about it.
Any help on what to include in my email would be highly appreciated.
  • It's now about 2 months later. I am still waiting for a response from Phonepayplus to my detailed complaints about unsolicited premium texts from 3. I alos include in my letter a copy of all the bills showing premium texts. I copied it to 3 locally where I had taken out the contract. 3 company says it has now referred me to a debt collecting agency for non payment of final bill as i cancelled the DD. What can i do next?
