Can I ask, I use a mabook, should that need defragmenting as I have never seen software or done it?

    Have a read of: http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html

TechTool Pro includes a very good defragger or "optimiser", I've been defragging Macs longer than PCs ;)

Edited to say, for general home users, with very large amounts of free HD space, frequent defragging won't make much difference, but every 6 to 12 months it'll make some difference. If you have a hard disc which is rapidly filling up, then the benefits are clearer to see.

For power users, hammering their systems, or those with lots of file creations and deletions, adding and removing lots of applications, testing, development etc, then I can vouch it makes a difference!

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag :

    Fast and free.
  • I'm in the 'defragging works' camp.

I also defrag a system when I have finished loading all the software on and before it goes out to the user
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
  • I've been using Diskeeper 2008 Professional on Vista and XP (both are 32 bit versions) and I find it to be fantastic. It has features not available in the built-in windows defraggers or any of the free defraggers, plus it's fully automatic, so it's worth it, for me atleast. 2008 is the current version of Diskeeper if I am not wrong.
