    When you connect the Ethernet cable from the PC to the router, a LED should illuminate for that port on the router. Does it?

    The writing I have on this lead is UTP ETL VERIFIED TO TIA/EIA 568 - B.2 CATEGORY5 PATCH CORD...
    I have a feeling this isnt an ethernet lead, am I correct in thinking that?

    Not sure from those words, although it sounds like it is an Ethernet cable. Does it look like the picture in post #4? If you go to Start, Settings, Network Connections have you got a "Local Area Network" listed? This is the Ethernet port is you have one.

    Information only: Poundland has been selling Ethernet leads, I'm using one now. :D
  • Ok have tried all that and it is still not connecting, when I went into settings
    then into network and dial up connections
    I have 3 bits that come up


    Make new connection
    Local Area connection 2
    virtual private connection?

    When I click on Local area connection 2
    it says sent packets 68
    recived 0

    Setting up a network can be tricky if your modem does not do it for you automatically, it's just a matter of getting your settings correct, your PC should help you, it has instructions inbuilt.

    No, there should be no problems connecting a PC using an Ethernet cable to a working router! You may have to configure the properties for the LAN card, that's all.
