Not sure from those words, although it sounds like it is an Ethernet cable. Does it look like the picture in post #4? If you go to Start, Settings, Network Connections have you got a "Local Area Network" listed? Information only: Poundland has been selling Ethernet leads, I'm using one now.

Ok have tried all that and it is still not connecting, when I went into settings
then into network and dial up connections
I have 3 bits that come up
Make new connection
Local Area connection 2
virtual private connection?
When I click on Local area connection 2
it says sent packets 68

Setting up a network can be tricky if your modem does not do it for you automatically, it's just a matter of getting your settings correct, your PC should help you, it has instructions inbuilt.0

No, there should be no problems connecting a PC using an Ethernet cable to a working router! You may have to configure the properties for the LAN card, that's all.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
