Any ideas what to get a VERY difficult man?

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to get my difficult boyfriend for Christmas. Basically I usually spend far too much on him and this year I can't as I am living on my own now and have rent and bills to pay (probably a good thing to be honest!).

I said to him months ago that I wouldn't be able to afford to get him much for Christmas and suggested that we only get token presents. He has told me that he has got me 3 presents already and will end up spending around £200!!

I know in a way I have already told him that I can't afford much and it's his problem if he wants to spend his money on me. But I have to get him SOMETHING and I just don't know what. If he wants something (like a game or DVD) then he will just buy it. He is very materialistic.

Does anyone have any ideas of something that I could buy/make that wouldn't cost too much?

I already have a set my self so know how good they are, i watch the tv
when every one has gone to bed. Hpe thats of help
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Try vistaprint and make use of all the free offers. Use photos from various stages of your relationship. They look quite expensive but your only really paying for postage costs (though they are not cheap). Worth a look.

Aside from that a cheap photo album a digital camera and some saucy underwear ( or lack of it ) always goes down a treat with my husband. You can pick up a photoalbum for pennies if you search, some nice letter transfers from smiths to personalise the cover and get that printer working. Just make sure there's no one else around when he opens that present.

I have a woman that can be very difficult at times, that you can have.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Thanks for that - unfortunately we are not very photogenic so I don't think he has any pictures of me and I only have 2 of him - and we have been together for nearly 8 years!!

I might try and do myself up and get a decent picture of myself (might take a while!) and put it in a nice blokey frame.

  • I'm getting hubby a CAMRA good beer guide (about £7 from Amazon) and putting in some sort of voucher promising to take him to all the pubs in our county over the year. I really couldn't think of anything else!

Make him a nostalgia stocking or gift box/hamper and fill it with a retro dvd, some stocking filler toys from Hawkins, make your own morph? an etch a sketch erm choccy coins.
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

What about a retro sweet hamper, toolbox full of sweets?

De vere are doing hotel rooms for £10 and the travelodge are doing them for £9 if you have a look, maybe you could go away for a few days either before or after xmas or just book for the night, and give him a book of promises. I havent got the link sorry.

My dh loves getting stuff he used to have as a kid, big stocking full of chocs/sweets. Old movies he used to watch as a kid, ferris bullers day off - mischeif - says it all lol

My last rolo IWOOT have these quite pricey though

How about doing a hamper, there are lots of suggestions over on the hamper thread, buy a nice box and fill it with toiletries/aftershave/token book/socks...

I can sympathise with you on this! My boyfriend tends to buy everything he wants as he wants it! I like the retro gift set idea, sweets, maybe one of his fav childhood comics etc - it will show you've put thought into it & all men are boys at heart!!

It shouldn't be about how much you spend but the thought you've put into the gift.

This year one of the things I've made for my OH is '365 facts in a jar' (found facts on the internet, printed them, cut into strips and stuffed in a jar - should be one for each day of the year. Coudl adapt this for jokes, facts about a particular country, sport... How about 365 things you love about him?

I'm making retro sweet boxes and jars too. There is a retro sweets thread on this board.

Do you shop in Tesco at all, you can exchange Clubcard vouchers for magazine subscriptions/ meals out/ days out... I've bought annual subscriptions to Empire magazine for £11 ish and Viz for £7 ish for pressies this Xmas.

Night in box - DVD, popcorn, board game, naughty underwear... whatever suits you.... ;)

    Other things to make:
Pot of Gold - fill a pot with choccie coins or other gold covered sweets, scratch card/lottery ticket or two and this verse...
"Here’s a little pot of gold
    A festive nibble too
    I hope it will make
All of your dreams come true
    Have a very merry Christmas
    From me to you!"

Snowman soup - http://www.essentialpackagingstore.com/projects/snowmansoup.php. Thread here. You could add a couple of Xmasy mugs.
