A Bill for £5965 from EoN!!!!

OK,

Just opened some post from 2 days ago and discovered my latest bill for Gas & Electricty is fir just under 6k!!

Can't quite see what they have done wrong. The big chunk is for the gas and it appears that a meter reading has moved from 3 digits to 4 and then back to 3 or something like that...

Anyway, too late to chase today?

Anyone had a similar problem?

someone posted in here the other day about imperial and metric meters and the different measures. Have you been able to look at your own reading...my daughter had been billed for £800 for just having a gas cooker and turned out they had taken a reading wrong then used the same useage for all further bills as estimates - turns out the £800 should have been around £70.
I am sure they will sort it out

Come on... I know bills are difficult to understand .. but

can you type out exactly what the bill says

incuding the readings, how many units in total, any conversion factors, total before VAT

we can then maybe see what the problem is

what's the current reading on your gas meter now?

The bill is in four parts.

Charges up to 8th Feb £1100.47
Charges from 8th Feb ( details copied below) £4835.68
Charges up to 22 August £8.23
    Charges from 22 August £27.82

The more recent readings are only 3 digits but the older readings are 4 digits and 3 digits.

    Charges from 8th Feb 2008

    Previous 4626 estimated in 8 feb 2008
Current 191 read by us on 14 April 2008
Difference 5565 units ( with multiplier value 2.83, conv value 1.02264..)

    Converted into 174029 KwH

    Charges

Gas Primary units used 514KWh at 4.352p each .......22.37
    secondary units 173515Kwh at 2.774p each .....4813.31

Sub Total Charges from 8th Feb = £4,835.68

There is also charges up to 8Feb which comes to = £1100.47

It appears the bill readings have changed from 3 digits to 4 digits in some cases but i don't really get it. It is inconsistent?

    HELP?

ok it looks like possibly they have overestimated your gas use... then as your current read is lower than the previous (estimated) reading they have assumed the meter has gone around over 9999 or whatever it goes up to and billed you for lots of units you haven't used.

Does the last actual reading on a bill make sense with the current reading? (ie actual previous reading lower than current reading)

If so then it's easy, just phone them up, give them the current reading, and tell them they need to cancel back all the bills back to the previous real meter reading and re-bill it

Hopefully that should do the trick...

If you have a current reading lower than previous actual readings you have a problem, but hopefully not!

I can't explain the bit prior to 8th Feb as there doesn't seem to be any breakdown of it. The key part seems to be this though "Current 191 read by us on 14 April 2008". My guess would be that on 14th April your reading was actually 5191, but the 5 has been missed off, making it look like your meter has gone all the way round when really it's only gone up by 500 ish.

Why are we talking about a bill that goes back to February though? Do you only pay for your gas and elec once a year or something?

Read you meter this morning and post the value. Then we should be able to explain whats gone wrong. Also confirm there was no meter exchange in between Feb and April.
