Kick in the teeth

After so many hurdles getting a mortgage due to me only being recently discharged we were finally due to sign for our new home on Tuesday.
The wife had bought all sorts for the house of her dreams - we got a call from estate agent yesterday telling us that seller had decided to go with the other interested buyers who offered £8000 less than us :mad:

My wife is totally inconsolable, we are unable to find out who the sellers are due to the data protection so unable to tell them how close we were to signing (although estate agent told us they had done this already)

There really should be things in place where an agreed sale should be a legal binding agreement........

    If you are genuinely ready to exchange then you need to communicate that very clearly.

    No-one is their right mind would take less money unless they genuinely thought that their current buyers were wasting time or that they were just heading down a dead end street :confused:

    Why do you think they've made that decision?

    Why did you allow her to buy things for a property that you hadn't even exchanged contracts on? :confused:

    You have just saved yourselves a fortune. Be happy, start looking again, and buy somewhere nicer for less money in a year or two.

    Surely you know where they live :rotfl:? Can't you just go round there and explain your position to them. Once they see how quick you can move, make sure your offer is £7,000 less.

    Also, if you were 'that close to signing' your solicitor would have had their details, as well as their solicitors details.
    Have you even made an offer? Had a survey?
  • Forgot that Sooz! What name is on the Memorandum of Sale provided by the agent when the offer was accepted?

    Doesnt make sense to me at all. If you were that close to exchange then your solicitors must have been in contact with theirs and would certainly know who the sellers were??

    If you have now got a mortgage okd, forget this place and go out looking for another at a lower price and with the upper hand.
  • They had a friend of theirs submit an offer the same day as we made ours.
    Our offer being so much more than their obviously swung them to our offer. Our financial advisor did take a weeks holiday so everything got delayed by a week, but since our offer was accepted it has only been 29 days !
    The lender asked for proof of our £40,000 deposit on tuesday, this was faxed to them that afternoon and they gave the go ahead on wednesday.
    I have a friend who works as a postman so i asked him if he could find out where the owners had moved to - but they did not have a re-direction from their house for their post, so we can find no way of finding out where they live.
    They were fully aware that we were due to complete - for some reason they took the keys from the estate agent last monday something i found very odd.

    I guess if i am honest it just was not meant to be. As said above we must count our selves lucky, houses prices have dropped 2% in the last 4 weeks since our offer was accepted, our rate was 8.35% fixed for 2 years as i am a discharged bankrupt so with interest rates dropping i guess we had a lucky escape.

    As for my wife buying things for the house, as far as we were concerned it was ours. we wanted chrome plugs and light switches which are normally at least £10 each they are on sale in our local lidls for £3.99 so they were a bargain too good to turn down.
    things bought will go in wherever we move.

    The gutting thing is we looked at so many properties and this was THE perfect house.
    I have spent the day trying to console my wife that life goes on - she still cannot bring herself to look at any other houses but she will....
    Our brother was going to move into our current rented house with his girlfriend and they had planned a family xmas with his girlfriends parents and his dad so this has upset their plans too.......

    but life moves on, i guess i will be on here in the new year asking what the best mortgage is for my new home......
    Thanks for the comments, some are reasuring - i ignore the pokes, they are words thats all against having your future which you have mapped out being changed by someone and the matter is completely out of your hands.......now that hurts.

    Put the stuff away in a box until you get your new home.

    You could either bang your head against this wall that's appeared or get on and find a better cheaper nicer house.
