OS Daily thread - Saturday 15th November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 15th November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone!

Hope everyones weekend is starting well and that everyone who is feeling poorly feels better.

Squiggly - *hugs* honey. You are welcome for fish pie any time, it's become my signature dish this year!...:rotfl:
Ivyleaf and Squiggly - getwell.gif
Meanmarie - You are welcome to give advice any time you like and yes, she is supposed to be catering for herself. However, she bought home eclairs yesterday and gave one to my Oh and myself which I guess blurs the edges a little. We shall see how it goes - she tried our home made bread too yesterday - and here is me thinking she had a wheat allergy... (only a mild one apparently)
nimbo - congrats on being made permanent, that must be a load off your mind
Shez - good to see you here!
twink - We thought we had the car thing sorted, and yes, our Touran is back and working, but we just had a bill from the hire car people for excess mileage and they have included the 30miles they drove to take the car from our house back to the hire companys garage!! Plus they have not returned our fuel deposit, so all that will mean more fighting to get sorted no doubt.
Pippa - I live minutes from Paignton! Good luck with the caravan and site!
Taplady - congrats on your exam results

Ok, I appear to have written way too much already but not really included any OS stuff so here goes - going to make rock buns and more ginger hobnobs today while the OH takes the garden bench to the garage and paints it in the protective stuff we should have painted on in the spring...

Pinata update: Have done four layers of papier mache so far and a fin and the tail is attached (can you guess what what it is yet...??:rotfl: ) It's the 5th one I have made - 3 for my nephews and a friend bought one last year for her sons birthday and some friends had me make one with a picture of their boss photocopied and put on the pinata for a christmas party... And they paid me!! So I guess that counts as OS earnings ...

hugs.gif to everyone who needs one

    Morning.

I woke up real early today, which is not that great for a day off. Trouble is I will be falling asleep tonight at 9 and want to go to bed early.....

First some good news... Checked last Saturdays lottery ticket and found I had won £89, so well chuffed. :j :j Picked up the winnings yesterday from ASDA, so will have to consider spending them today.

Computer needs a major service. I have programs that don't run anymore and others that won't install or work, so I am going for the big clearout. Some expert at £15 an hour is going to save all the pics and music, good stuff to a hard drive, wipe the system and re-install windows and other software. I should hopefully have a computer that will run better and faster and I won't have to buy a new one. Still a bit scary.

    Well, must get going..... cheers
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

  • Good morning everyone  DH has taken the children to swim club, so I'm here for a short while then off to get ready.

I'm taking DD to York to buy the fabric for her GCSE textiles piece. I'll probably treat her to lunch in an old converted church (delicious baked potatoes, HM soup and huge Yorkshire puddings :j ). She's having 5 friends to sleepover tonight. Hope they aren't up too late - DD went to a concert last night, and wasn't in until midnight  They're ordering pizzas and I'm making a cake and some profiteroles for them.

    taplady - congratulations :T

shez - great to see you back!

Have a great day, everyone! Penny. x

    Morning everyone :hello:

(((hugs))) to all those that need one.

    :j :j to people celebrating.

Sorry, I've been MIA over the past few days. It's been so busy at school. Who would think that teaching small children ISN'T a walk in the park :D. I can't believe that I've been teaching for over 3 years now. Where does the time go?

Plans for the weekend are a little unsure, but I've got lots of bits and pieces to do: wrapping presents, marking books, preparing for parents' evening next week.......... need I go on?

I will, of course, be cooking. I think that lunch will be soup. I've got the New Covent Garden "Soup for All Seasons" cookbook and there's a recipe in there for a mediterranean veg soup which looks quite yummy. I'll be able to freeze the other half for another time. Supper tonight will be a chicken curry with rice.

DH wants a mention, so I'm mentioning him. He's sitting next to me finishing off his weetabix (well, "wheat biscuits" Mr T's own brand). He claims that he would have been up earlier, but the duvet "pinned him down".

    Morning all

Hope all is well - been very busy lately so not been around much. well I say that but can't actually point ot any major acheivments - oh well

MSd - coincidence - dd and I are making a pinata too. Ours is in the shape of ..... well a balloon. Just the pretty layers to do this weekend. it is for dgs who will be an old man of 4 on the 24th.

N9aev - I hope this won't change your life and that you'll still remember your OS friends - congratulations :)

Oh my - just had a shockette - dd(12) got me and her dad to promise to go halvies on a laptop - she's just showed me her bank book - she's nearly there - yikes better get saving.

Took in 48 muffins for children in need yesterday at work. Sat down next to someone who started moaning about this cake she'd bought - how it was really dry - yes it was one of mine. "erm well at least the person tried" was all I could muster before slinking off in shame.

Plans today are some catch up cleaning - well what else are weekends for sigh - a meal plan/food inventory extravaganza and some christmas sewing

    have a good day
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
