I'm afraid it's nothing much but in the April issue they described a flower as 'The sort of plant that would cover the walls of an upmarket Balkan bordello.'
I just thought it was really out of place and frankly quite insulting to people from the Balkans, as if bordellos were their only distinguishing feature..
Some friends of ours work hard in ex-Communist countries to give people skills which mean that they're less likely to fall into the snares of sex traders so I guess it's something particularly close to my heart. I've met some of those young women who were saved at the 11th hour from having been offered a 'job' when in fact they would have been kidnapped and sold as sex slaves.
I know not all bordellos use criminal means to get their staff but in the ex-Communist countries, the likelihood is very high.
I just didn't think it was necessary to mention the sex industry in a family gardening mag. In the same issue they have a double page feature on gardening with kids.
Kids need to know the reality of life but there's a time and a place.
Anyway, I'm sure my letter will fall on deaf ears but if no one wrote letters of complaint (and I rarely do) then everyone would get away with everything."Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

that does seem quite out of order on the magazines part, good on you for complaining, I certainly do when I feel strongly about something! :T0 -
Jailhousebabe - that nappy cake is amazing. I'd never seen these before I started crafting. They are such a good idea. That one is so beautiful though you wouldn't want to take it apart:staradminHuuuuuuge thank you hugs to all posters:staradmin0

Thanks Whoopidoo - I'm hoping my sister feels the same! I've used size 4 nappies (18lb-30lb) and vests for 12-18 months so that she doesn't have to dismantle it straight away.
npsmama - I would have done exactly the same; I'm famous for my complaining - but I do like to think that I 'play fair' and don't just whinge in the hope of gaining something from it. I'm sure yours will not be the only complaint they receive; what are the odds that a middle-age Jeremy Clarkson wannabe wrote the piece?some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
Happy belated birthday cgcockcroft! It's my birthday today so I finally got my Cuttlebug :-D Haven't actually made any cards yet though as I've been running plain white paper though it while playing with all the dies.. Have also realised how expensive it's going to be because I want all the Nestabilities lol x0

Belated Happy Birthday - cgcockcroft
Congratulations on becoming an Auntie JHB glad the babe arrived safely. I love the names, aren't you a Marie as well? Re hair colour - on both sides of the family there's a better than even chance there'll be some red there - I love it in all its shades.
Npsmama - Good for you! I also take up my pen if I feel strongly about something - otherwise how do 'they' know we are dissatisfied. In a previous job I was on the 'other' side, replying to MP's complaints - I loved it - it was the best job I've ever had
Lei - Happy Birthday! Enjoy your 'bug.
Saveapenny - Wonder if you are still up? All the very best for tomorrow - hope all goes well0 -
