    Oh dear...
DD's friend's mum is selling a cuttlebug for £30; she's only ever used the swiss dots folder in it, and has never used the four embossing folders and stamp die that came with it. She said that I could use it for the weekend and then tell her if I want it. It looked like brand new when I got it, but I've soon ruined that! :(
I tried using the stamp die, following the instructions in the booklet with regard to layering the plates, etc. When I tried to roll the plates through, they got stuck almost straight away. I didn't try to force it, just rolled it back out. One of the thin plates now has a jagged line across it (the impression from the die).
It certainly couldn't now be sold 'as new', so I feel obliged to buy it. Am I buying a dud though? It's not much use if I can't use it for die-cutting. :(
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

Hi jailhousebabe, just spotted your post. I'm not an expert on the cuttlebug, I've only had mine 3 weeks but what happened to the plate was perfectly normal. When you use a cutting die through the c/bug, it does mark the plate, it can also bend the plate a little too. Don;t worry you haven't broken it and you can even get replacement plates - if you don't want to buy the whole machine... HTH

    hi jailhousebabe
as quiksave said this does seem to be normal. the plates for mine look awful now i've cut some dies but it works fine. mine was a bit stiff to use when i first got it and i kept thinking it was going to break. Think at 30 quid i'd be tempted to buy it they are great. but not everyone likes them.

Jailhousebabe - Quicksave & craftgranny beat me to it. The first time I used mine I wasn't happy that it left the impression of the die I'd used on one of the plates and I've seen others who've used theirs a lot and the plates look very 'crazed'. I believe the plates have a limited life and you can get replacements. i almost think when I use mine there is a cracking sound as it goes through but I've never had it get stuck. (I'm also fairly new to cuttlebug use)

Rusty - I've done some tidying today but still not found the paper with info about the brown 'jelly' mat - the search goes on......

Paddington & flourgirl Thank you for the info about links I didn't know how to do that either!

Lovely cards ladies - sorry not to name you all but I've already lost one post tonight trying to flit through so I could comment properly & daren't risk losing another!

Hi Marg is this the kind of thing you mean. I know lots of people use them and the smaller ones for doing borders

The marks on the plates for the cuttlebug are quite normal - mine looks dreadful now but works fine.
I managed to snap one in half with my sizzix sidekick .
Try eBay for replacement plates - I usually use the same one as the cutting one so I have one brand new looking one and one scruffy scratched one :p
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

Jailhouse Babe what you've experienced is perfectly normal as everyone else has said and this happens on all die cutting machines, if you think about it the cut has to go somewhere. The cracking sound is normal too and the bending of the plates as well. Its reckoned on the Wizard machine that the pressure is something like two hundred pounds of pressure so the plates will bend. If you need any info try this ladies blog here ( I am showing off, now!) she knows all about the 'bug' and is very helpful. She does a Tippy Thursday on Ukscrappers and I think it's mainly about the 'bug'.

    Have a nice day, y'all! :)
