I tend to agree with the majority of posters here..... Is it really worth the effort.....
Just remember the snack money from now on:beer:0

There's also the issue if the parent hasnt paid, maybe they dont want their child to have a snack, eg maybe they want them to get an appetite to make sure they eat all their healthy lunch, not full from toast or biscuit etc. I work as TA and collect biscuit money on a Monday, we would give a biscuit to a child who forgot if the child usually pays and says they are bringing their money tomorrow, but if they didnt bring it the next day we wouldnt usually give it again til they brought the money.0

If the teacher gives toast to those who haven't paid , then I could envisage that many parents would carry on not paying and expecting their child to have toast.
Or as PP said some parents might not want their child to have toast, that doesn't mean the child won't ask for it .
Children need to learn that you have to pay for things.
Sometimes children have to learn that adults make mistakes, just say sorry I forgot to your child. It will teach her how to react when she makes mistakes. It's no good going round blaming someone else.
No child is going to fade away for lack of a piece of toast. It's just not worth getting into a battle over !

I'm always forgetting to pay stuff at my son's school and they would never do this surely it's not gonna kill them to wait a few days for £3.50....that said you are fighting a losing battle here the teacher will always win against 5 yr olds!!MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0

If half the class aren't paying up, that's over £50, if that's going on in every class the school will be down hundreds of pounds. Schools have enough to pay for, without having to subsidise the parents who are 'always forgetting to pay'. How far would that excuse get you in the supermarket?
(Not that that excuses the teacher lying about it, but the parents who don't pay are not innocent parties in this). When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

yes but the payment covers the whole term so it's not going to hurt them too badly to get the toast money later on in the week, I doubt their budgets are that tight. Plus they know where you live - you're not gonna get away with not paying (could you imagine the shame!!lol )
To be honest if it was me I would supply my own snacks if one piece of fruit wasn't enough I'd send say a few grapes etc as a top up I don't think they need more really. They eat lunch quite early in infants and I'd rather my lo didn't fill up on less nutritious food if I was also paying for school dinners.
Also if child is on packed lunch they would likely be having sandwiches so giving them 2 bread type meals most days, which isn't particularly healthy.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0

There will always be a few that will try and get away with it.

So how many people have to forget their £3.50 before it does become important enough for you?
I think the teacher telling lies is a problem, that's for damn sure, but I don't really think that blaming the school for not giving people things unless those things are paid for is reasonable. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

i think the issue here though is it's 5 yr old children being punished not the parents - and then been called liars afterwards because this is not usual school policy and it's not what the teacher should have done.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0

I think there are 2 very seperate issues.
The main concern that I would have, and this would mean that I went to the governors with it. The teacher blatently lying- at the end of the day, these are people we are by law entrusting to educate and care for our children whilst they are in their care-if the lie about something so trivial like this, then what else is going on???
It would annoy me about not letting my child have something that was my fault, and I woul hope that DS's school would have enough common sense to not do this.Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY0
