Help DVD's in black and white!

Hi, please can anyone advise ? we bought ourselves a lovely Sony KDLS40a12 for christmas, have set it up but can now only view DVD's in black and white - haven't managed to find how to play videos at all yet....

Neither of us are techi at all so excuse the terminology:

The sony dvd player is connected to a scart socket in the TV, the other end of the lead (into the dvd) is not a scart and there is no scart socket in the dvd).

The sky + box is connected into the other scart socket on the back of the tv.

Can you please advise me on the model number of the Sony DVD Player and what the connection type into the DVD Player is as you say it isn't a scart?

If you aren't sure what the connection into the DVD Player is, let me know the model number and I will try and find out myself.

Have you checked the plug in the back of the DVD Player is firmly pushed in?

    Many thanks, tigermatt :)
  • the lead with the scart on the TV end is an RF (guess from your description) there are also loads of audi ins and outs as you describe 2 of which are going into the sky + and the other 2 into the VCR

have you got an rgb scart lead?

you will probably fins the best way to connect would be the rgb scart into your sky plus, your video recorder into the sky plus (out put scart) and yoour dvd player into another scart socket on your tv.

you may need to swap the 2 around ( the ones into the tv) to get dvd in colour.

also make sure that the dvd player and the dvd are of the same region ( unless the dvd player is region free, and in that case you definately need the dvd player plugged into you rgb scart socket at the back of your tv

nice tv by the way £1600 of pure pleasure.

it has 2 scart leads so 1 for sky plus and 1 for the dvd player, as mentioned plug the video into the skyplus output scart slot.

sorry ,what is an RGB scart lead?
  • You will need a fully wired 21 Pin scart lead, some cheapo makes are not fully connected, just unscrew and open the scart lead at one end and see if all the little pins inside have a wire attached.

The RGB refers to R (Red), G (Green), B (Blue) which is the best setting of AV equipment to pass a signal through a scart cable.
  • Perhaps I should add that the same dvd player worked in our old sony tv fine, we think we wired it up the same way but it doesn't work in colour. Any further suggestions are most welcome

I had the same problem with an old tv. There was a button on the tv remote that could adjust the RGB setting.
